Can you book SQ flights on the VA Website?

Hi All,

Never tried booking SQ flights via the VA website before, but figured since they're partners I'd give it a try as the points earn on VA coded flights is better. Looking for a simple return from Melbourne - Singapore however the VA website is telling me there's no economy availability at all in April, May or June.

Is this normal? There's no shortage of flights via the SQ website......

I’ve always found the same results when trying to book VA’s codeshares … or the few times the website shows a result it is laughably expensive. I don’t bother looking now.

Phone VA PHP call centre up, and explain that the dates you need are showing as "unavailable".
At least with VA, the times I have called in the past, its always the Philippines English.

works for me, I can see 4 flights a day in April. How are you searching on the VA site?
Well thats odd. Can you post a screenshot? Seems its not just me that can't buy SQ flights via VA.

In answer to your question how I'm searching, just clicking flights from the main virgin australia website page

punching in Melbourne and Singapore (which oddly enough it accepts)

Selecting some dates and the number of pax...

And then watch it tell me there's no available flights for three consequtive months.

Not sure what you're doing differently. I'm logged in as Platinum should that make any difference. I've tried clearing cookies and browser chache...nil joy

Computer or tablet? I’ve found more success searching on a laptop and desktop than using a mobile browser. I know it shouldn’t matter, but it seems to change things for me.

(I was recently searching domestic flights, and had the same issue.)

A suggestion, you can book direct via the SQ site and enter your VA FF details against that booking. You will accrue FF points and SCs, you would miss out on eligible VA sectors though.

No problems on my browser (Edge) for May. I went through the Velocity site and checked "Currency" (it defaulted to "Points").

I suspect it's an issue with your browser [edit: probably not, see below].

As an aside, that flight can also be booked as a reward with SQ flight number. The points price for the VA codeshare however is 3.5x dearer. Anyone know why? Plus the taxes are different which seems odd too.

Sorry, just checked for your specific date in April and it looks like the 19th is unavailable for departure.

Perhaps that's why VA won't come up with anything. Can't get you home if it can't get you out?

Anyway, looks like cash fares on SQ booked via VA website are available if you're flexible.

what I've found for the SG codeshare is that inventory seems a bit sporadic. on some date VA would just return no availability. the UA codeshare to US destination doesn't seem to suffer from the same problem

Maybe try searching for one way options (in both directions first), then try again as a return where you know the flights are available? I've found issues before when either the outbound or inbound options are not available and the whole search goes screwy.
