Can you "take" the 50SC Qantas Loyalty Bonus Reward in the next Membership Year?

Hey all,

Have a pretty odd question, but something I'm sure others must have thought about.

I'm currently in the last month of my membership year, and just got the 50 SC / 8,000 pts bonus from reaching 1,500 SCs. Obviously I'm still a fair while away from P1, so it wouldn't make any sense to take the 50 SCs in this membership year as I wouldn't make P1 regardless.

However, I have another few months to make my selection. Could I potentially just wait until my new membership year in a few weeks, and then choose 50 SCs? Will it credit to my next membership year where it'll actually be useful?

If not, might just have to take the points, but keen to hear of any experience.

Yes you can, and yes it does/will apply to new membership year.

Confirming this is working as recently as today, for a loyalty bonus earned in a previous membership year ending february

Edit: suggest waiting until your SCs are reset etc and then claiming it after that to avoid any funny business (so probably the 2nd or 3rd of the month in your new year)

Just an additional data point - I reached exactly 500SCs from a Points Club classic rewards flight on 28 Dec (three days before the end of my year on 31 Dec).

But by the time the flight posted in January, the loyalty bonus counter had reset on the website so I couldn't select my reward.

Took a couple of emails (and a couple of months) before they manually reactivated it in my profile earlier this month so I could select it. The 50SCs count towards my current membership year.

My bonus expires on the last day of my membership year. I don't need it for this year, would rather have it crediting next year.
All I need is 1 extra day...

But did you elect during the time you had to chose?

Sounds like the previous post has to chose no later than the final day of the current status year - which normally means use it or lose it.

But yes, normally if the election period (~3mth) for a LB, GT bonus etc straddles memberships years, you effectively get the choice to chose which member year works best. I’m sitting on a GT bonus to take on 01 Aug.

No, I didn't have to choose - the deadline for choosing was into my new membership year. I chose SCs a few days into the new membership year and it was credited.

Normally you need to choose within about 3 months. The offer shows you the expiry date.

Yeah, that’s a bummer. As per my previous, I believe it’ll be use it or lose it. Maybe best you can do is elect on the very last day but even then, it’ll probably post immediately with that effective date.

This is good to know. I think I'll be in a similar boat next month as I am taking flights on my end of year date (Sunday 30 June) which should push me over the 500 SC. The SCs should post immediately after my flight so I'll be able to take a screenshot of hitting 500 SCs in case I have to follow up as you did. I just hope the loyalty reward options are sent to me rather than me having to follow up.

I never had to follow up in the past. The offer should just appear as a popup in the app under the My QFF tab, or online under Status Activity.

The loyalty bonus prompt will usually appear in your profile in a few days. It'll then give you 90 days to act on it. This is where the timing of the action comes into play if the period crosses over into your next membership year.

Noting the T&Cs for green tier SCs exclude them from contributing to loyalty bonus earn, does anyone have an example where they in fact have counted towards the LB?

I’m flying 4 mths out of my year feb 28 end so I will take the number out of my booking and claim it after 3 mths
That should then show up in jan for me to claim in march

Won’t a respective flight SC claim be dated to when the flight was taken? Otherwise I could bank all my flights for the remainder of my QF year and jump start my WP requal next year. I think this is the question @tinkybelle was asking. Answer surely a no?

Correct the SC relating to flights will be applied to date of flight irrespective of when it is actually credited to account

But it is not about that, rather it is about when the loyalty SC bonus if any, is then credited.

Depends what will trigger the LB I suppose. It's an interesting proposition. Not sure I'll earn one this year though so can't test it out

Im sure the LB WILL apply from date of crediting to account it wont be retrospective
