Inspired by frequent CBR visitor @Mattg post about local wineries:

It looks like I'll be spending quite a lot of time in Canberra over the next few months, so I figured it would be a nice opportunity to visit some more of the wineries around the Canberra region.

Does anyone have any favourites/recommendations?

How much interest would there be for an AFF meetup at one of the local (Murrembateman?) cellar door restaurant's ?

Considering how long it takes to get there, and most only open for lunch (or breakfast), the usual after work time may not be possible - i was instead thinking of lunch on a weekend. Are people keen or will family / sporting / otger commitments going to make this impossible?

Did some-one say winery visit? :)

Very interested. Hopefully we would do more than just lunch; maybe visit a winery before and after?

(Careful the grammar police don't get to you. ;) )

Maybe...

This would probably be something I might be able to get Mrs Harvyk interested in.

Pretty good response so far.

I will reach out to Tim Kirk at Clonakilla and Graeme at Shaw Estate to see what they can do for a group visit.

The new restaurant at Shaw looks well worth a visit.

Most of the wine-making-places have some sort of restaurant attached, I’d say this is more a lunch in nice surroundings- drinking optional.

I'll probably only have one glass anyway if I need to drive home.

Me and +1 are interested pending on dates. What's the chance of having this on a Friday?

Did someone say wine?

Sign me up :p

As noted up-thread, most wineries cater predominantly for lunch, which means a little tour of 3-4 cellar doors with a long lunch at one is a tried and true formula. Of course, a nice lunch with less emphasis on the alcohol can also be nice for the non-drinkers and drivers.

I’m hatching a plan for part of the group to take a tour of 3-4 Murrembateman cellar doors (Helm, Four Winds, etc) and end up for lunch at Ollyville, the newly remodeled restaurant at Shaw Estate. Those who want can skip the tastings and meet us directly at the restaurant.

Can I get an indication of who would prefer Fri or Weekend (Sat preferred) and how many for the tour or just lunch? The 4 options are:

Fri tour and lunch
Fri lunch only
Sat tour and lunch
Sat lunch only

Mods, I can’t see how to add a poll to an active thread?

Subject to my availability I would probably do either Friday or Saturday (Saturday preferred). Three - Four wineries plus lunch is pushing it a bit, and I would be very selective as to how many wines I tasted at which wineries - not an issue unless there was a high cost for the tastings.

Saturday is better for me.

I would be very interested in the tastings + lunch if the tour included a lift back to Canberra ;)

I could potentially do either day but would prefer a Friday given I'm on leave at the moment.

I'd be up for tasting and lunch.

The only way we (myself and @TomVexille ) could attend would be if it were on a saturday. Lunch and tour sounds great.
