Here comes the wind and rain, just arriving right now it seems. TAF isn’t pretty at Brisbane.

WND: 080-170/20-35, MAX XW 35. MAX TW 10.

That’s not a TAF, they don’t quote cross wind figures on TAFs, that’s the ATIS.

In the end, we only got about 50mm of rain (estimated by the pool water level) and some strong, but not destructive wind. I would much rather this outcome and been prepared for worse. And I feel for those further south that were not in the direct path of Alfred, but copped way worse wind and rain than those of us directly in the predicted line.

250,000 (quarter of a million) homes/properties without power early this morning. That is a very large proportion of the estimated 4 Million residents (assume 2-3 people per property on average, though number likely includes business properties as well). So far no services disruption for us, but expecting ongoing rain for a few days.
Same here (minus swimming pool), very little rain comapratively and thankfully no damaging winds which was my main worry. Bay window survives! And the news from GC and northern NSW is heartbreaking, those people who had trees fall on their houses and such.
Just thinking. The best forecasters of the cyclone on the Sunshine coast were the local birds. they began moving out Wednesday afternoon and the mornings of Thursday and Friday had no bird calls.
Friday afternoon most had moved back.

The other thing this was not an unique event or an event without precedent. Being 78 I still remember my aunt taking me to the movies and watching the Cinesound Newsreels so remember 1954/55. !954 was the "great" Gold Coast Cyclone and 1955 the Maitland Flood which was much wider than just Maitland. It was due to a rain depression forming off the QLD/NSW border leading to large rainfalls throughout northern NSW.

I was wondering about that! The rainbow lorikeets, honeyeaters and noisy miners were squawking loudly in the trees, I was worried about them. But things are quiet now, should I be worried?

Hope no one gets the DTs
Well I made sure I had extra gin available. Have to stock up on the wine for Mrsdrron tomorrow though.

It was very quiet here Thursday and Friday morning. But Friday afternoon it was back to normal. Seems like the birds better forecasters than the BOM.
Our butcher birds stayed home but were quiet. The last 3 days had a change in behaviour. Normally dad insists on eating first followed by mum and then junior. Dad gets aggressive if the others eat first. But the last 3 days he let junior and mum share the first sitting whilst he sat to the side. Only ate when they finished. This evening back to the usual way.

Nauru 737 gave up and diverted to ROK.

Jetstar A321 in the area holding at the moment.

Wind seems to be more favourable at Sunshine Coast, pretty much right down the runway. Crosswind/Tailwind not as bad down at Gold Coast.

JQ7992 (ex SYD) and QF6146 (ex PER) also just aborted.
So might struggle to get the planes in tonight for the early BNE departures.

A few other aircraft enroute to both BNE and OOL

Both above plus JQ7994 seem to be heading to SYD.
