Sorry if this sounds a bit dumb.......I feel I should understand this from the info on QF but I am unsure and would be very appreciative if you knowledgable guys could help clarify this for me.

I may have to cancel 2 J tickets to Dallas in January14. They were purchased on 3rd May 13. It was a Business Sale Fare.

From the web site it says that the fare is non refundable but if you wish to change the booking it will incur a fee of $300 pp.

Can I understand from this that if I cancel the tickets, the value of the tickets are kept in my account until I wish to use the funds to purchase another 2 tickets minus $300pp.

And does this mean that the flights have to be taken before 3rd May 14 or just that they have to be purchased using the funds from the cancelled flights before this date?

I understand that I have to purchase 2 tickets of higher value than the original.

Thank you for any help with this.

It all depends on the conditions. My sale fare was non-cancellable or changeable and we could only get a credit for use by someone else in the company after proving I had been made redundant.

This is the screen shot of the Conditions.

You can not get a credit/refund

You can change the flights to a different destination/date/time for $300 per person per booking but you need to do that BEFORE the flights

You can't sit on a "credit note" as that is essentially a refund

Thanks so much for the clarification.

So I can ring Qantas and ask to change the booking to another destination/date/time with a fee of $300 pp as long as it's value is more than the original tickets and flight is before 3rd May13 when the booking was made.

Sorry I tried to edit but didn't work for me.

I meant to say .......it's value is more than the original tickets and flight is before 3rd May 14. ( flights were booked 3rd May13 for Jan 14 )

You haven't explicitly mentioned, but did you buy this as a revenue fare or an ASA? My understanding is the part under "Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award" only applies to ASAs.

Changing the destination on a revenue ticket may be classed as an "itinerary change" (someone correct me if I'm wrong) so when you click on the link, that also happens to be $300 for "Business Saver" in addition to any fare difference that may apply.

Generally you can only change travel dates to be within 12 months of ticketing - so in your case, yes, 3rd May 2014 is when the new travel has to be completed.

What was your exact routing on the original ticket? What are you planning on changing it to? Without details, we can only provide limited help..

Why do you need to change it?

usually QF are quite considerate if it is medical reasons or similar. An example is where a colleague had 2 J sale fares booked to Europe for him and his partner, and a month before their trip his partner was diagnosed with breast cancer.

qf were awesome to provide them with a full refund (their insurance probably would've covered it otherwise).

have you got travel insurance? They may have something about cancellations depending on the circumstances

I'd suggest the best step now is to work out a change that would suit you best, plus maybe a couple of options. Then ring qantas, explain the situation and see what they offer. As noted for a medical thing they might offer to cancel despite the fare conditions.

Thanks to all for your help with this.

It is a paid fare.....$6,500 x 2....to Dallas return. We are visiting friends then going on a cruise. Without going into details, we have decided that the itinerary of this cruise may not be wise because of some health issues that have developed since we booked this holiday. WE have until the end of August to cancel the cruise without penalty which we prefer to do rather than a wait and see approach, then trying to get refunds from our travel insurance ( the cruise costs are over $50,000).

I have 2 return JASAs to London in Sept/Oct 13.

I propose to cancel the JASAs. Then I could change the Dallas tickets to return London ones, paying the difference in the fare price. Do you think this is possible?

It is with reluctance I will cancel the JASAs to London but I cannot see any other possibility of using the cancelled Dallas tickets before 3rd May14.

I value any help with this. Thanks.
