I have been planning a holiday and there wasn’t any reward seat availability for my trip so I booked a “choice” fare (FOMO because I needed to travel on exact dates with 4 pax, and had the return leg on a reward seat)

It was 58000 points instead of 17000 points. Now award availability has opened up I was wondering if a can cancel the choice and book the reward. Only drama is I don’t have enough points to book the reward and then cancel the choice fare - I need the points refunded first

I called the contact centre and they advised that because the choice fare was technically a “revenue fare” it can only be refunded to travel bank. But that seems a bit strange because at the end of the day it was still booked on points?

Has anyone else cancelled a revenue fare they booked on points?

There is an $80 fee per pax for cancelling Choice fares so it may not be worth it?

Still probably worth it.

$240 in fees vs 160,000 in points refunded

It’s not the end of the world, but would be good to use those points against another booking or a J upgrade
