Hi, just wondering if VA lets you cancel a flight and travel bank the amount like qantas does? ( who then charge you when you re use the credit). Even if flying EK with QF #.

If so, is it only for VA metal flights? Or can this be used on say - an Air NZ seat + bag fare booked via VA website wth VA #??

Yes, you can cancel your flights and get the $ refunded to travel bank.

I have only ever used travel bank for VA metal flights, but I can't see why it wouldn't remain in the list of payment options for any booking through the Virgin website?

Travel bank is far more flexible than what QF offers as you can combine numerous credits from numerous cancellations into one new booking.

Also. you can split one large credit into numerous separate bookings.

What I'm thinking of doing is using a VA numbered NZ flight as a flexi booking "almost". Obviously it won't work for purely changing flights but I missed an EK flight due to traffic incident recently and travel banked that to QF and so if there's a potentially predictable change of plan flight for an NZ flight then maybe I buy it under the VA number so can travel bank it if need be. I'm sure I'll get caned $$ wise for rebooking but that does beat losing the entire fare.

A rare thing but real thing.

In the same vein - are VA pretty strict with not being able to change flights within 24hrs of departure unless its a flexi fare? ie anyone been able to make a change and pay the 100AUD and fare difference < 24hrs?

There's a SYD-AKL flight that is ~ $60 cheaper booking via the VA website but we would be arriving SIN-SYD on Scoot arriving at 1235pm with another 4 flights available back to AKL same day. I don't think I'll know >24hrs whether the connection will be ok. I'm keen to take the 1550 NZ flight back to Akl but think the 1650 might be the better way to go for a bit of extra safety margin.

NZ will let you make changes prior to departure it says rather than VA's policy of >24hrs notice needed. Both NZ and VA say $100 change fee unless paying up a cabin etc and need to pay the fare difference. I'm leaning towards paying the NZ fare even though a bit more expensive and then just sucking it up if we have to do a flight change.

I don't think paying for VA's flexi fare to allow changes up to departure and 24hrs after is worth it, nor is NZ's flexi add on at $202. You're paying $200 at least on both carriers just to miss out on paying the $100 change fee (and VA to be able to make that change < 24hrs prior to departure).

Just thought i'd tack on to this thread rather than creating a new one.

I'm doing ADL->MEL->NTL and return in November. However the university scheduled my exam on the same day as my departure date so now I need to fly the next day. Is it possible to cancel departure leg for travel bank and then rebook for the next day? I can't see the option on the website, only to cancel the whole thing. The return leg since booking has increased by $100 so just weighing up my options.
