Bill the client for the flights.

We do, but the fact that it is Business as opposed to personal use is a little bothersome if we can dismiss the price rise by saying that "business" pays for it, because utimately that reflects on the price of that service to the consumer, ie, you guys! It's like saying the Carbon tax only effects Businesses, and ignoring the price rise that will get passed on to the consumer.

Maybe it is just a case that Qantas does not resource Adelaide properly through frequent service so the supply is always limited. God I miss Ansett!:(

I'm not sure why you think this is a price rise. Only the more expensive fares are available. The cheap fares have sold out that does not mean there was a price rise. As I said I can still get cheap fares, at will no change if you pay for a more expensive fare. In fact it probably helps keep my fare low.

Ok I will rephrase. I would like to know the percentage of discount fares available this year as compared with last year. Reducing the availability of discount fares, while not technically a price rise, has the same effect as more people pay more dollars than before.

Could it just be that there is higher demand this year?

There wasn't between ADL and SYD but April has turned to cough for me. Might get to use up my VA J upgrades. :D

I can't think why. Not like SA is going gang busters economically at the moment. They keep saying the mining boom will kick in but I think I will be long gone before that happens. Maybe it is all us getting out of the state.;)

Why would Qantas (or any airline) give you or I that information? They're a business after all and their focus is to generate a return for their owners.

Others have shown that there were cheaper flights available close to when you wanted to go. You were unlucky.

I flew PER-ZNE-PER yesterday but it was based on a call rec'd Tuesday, should I whine about there being no cheap seats available, accept it or look elsewhere? It's simply a cost of doing business in that area. Our customer was keen to meet that day so we went. FYI the fare was $1070 for 2 x 1.5hr flights. When available the cheap fares are $580ish

Nothing to do with the SA economy if people are flying out of the state! ;) Must be going gangbusters elsewhere!

Can't say about ADL, but I haven't found much of a change in MEL-SYD and MEL-CBR fares. I am always travelling on business times (Sunday night or Monday morning and Friday evenings) and those fares still seem the same. I always book under 2 weeks out, most booking is done only 3-4 days ahead of departure. I know the fares are going to be nowhere near the cheap fares... there are only 2-3 flights each direction that suit my timings and I pay premium for those as they are the same flights that most other business travellers take.

For example, I'm flying out to CBR coming week.. booked late last week and the best fare suitable to me was $700 return. At times last year, I paid upto $1000 for a Y return fare to CBR return.... almost the same price as a D fare. The cheapest I've paid is probably around the $600 mark on that sector. If I take a flight 3 hours later, and return 3 hours earlier, the fare is only $350 return; but those timings mean I can't do my work. :( The lost productivity is a lot more than the $350 airfare.

I think you are ignoring the issues I have raised. ie Has Qantas changed their offering of discount fares in order to recoup their losses of last year. My bet is that luck has nothing to do with it. And no-one showed me fares anywhere near the appropriate time btw.

My feeling is No, they haven't. Why because I'm finding cheaper fares than 2011 between SYD and ADL. If they are trying to recoup losses I doubt it would just be on the ADL-MEL route.

and if they have? You have the choice of flying with another carrier or utilising another mode of transport. They are under no obligation to provide discount fares at anytime. They could jack all their prices up 300% tomorrow and they would if they thought the market would sustain it.

BTW....Check post #3 and #4 re pricing.
