Car hire in NZ

Does Thrif
I have used Thrifty from WLG several times and had no problems. You do not need an AWD for NZ roads in Oct.

A lot of the roads between smaller towns can be quite winding and narrow. You need to allow more time for this but a 2 wheel drive standard car is suitable.

Don't forget your FF number for either QF or VA points

Does Thrifty have affiliations with either Qantas or Virgin?
I wasn't aware that you could earn points with them.

Mrs GPH and I have hired a few cars in NZ over the years. As an expat K1W1 I can say my choice is to hire a decent car , our favourites for more than 2 pax is the Toyota Highlander (Kruger here in Oz) otherwise we like the Toyota RAV.
NZ roads can be quite winding and the upswing in Asian tourism has meant a lot more drivers unused to driving on the LHS of the road.
It is my contention that having a bigger car with better height / vision is as much a safety issue as comfort.
There are parts of NZ where high clearance is an advantage , going off the beaten track a wee bit can offer some experiences you will remember for a long time.

Ah cough I wasn't aware of this!
I wonder if it's too late if I provide them with my Velocity number when I pick up the car?

No problem. I have done it before. Even if you forget you can claim for missing points up to 6 months later
