Car hire in Sydney without online booking

Hi all,

Are you still able to simply walk up to a car hire counter in SYD and hire a car? Or do all car hires require online booking/reservation these days?

You can as I have seen it done last month when i was getting my keys for Alamo. I thought the rate being quoted though was higher than my online booking 48 hours before.
And you might not have a choice of company.
