Thankyou for the response and will review.....great to have a recent user and traveller report back on a company and service with prices!
Got the Garmin GPS preloaded ;)

More than happy to have others add their experience.....I have searched in Australian Frequent flyer posts and it mentions Hertz precredit card loaded nightmares!

So currently seems that rentalcars.com can beat Conns Ireland car rental with tyres\rims cover included for the time of booking.
Seems Conns mentions "SUPER insurance" a, not mentioned in Rentalcars insurance and it is the same car with Hertz for the same time?
Will Hertz Gold member get any further benefit at the counter?
If you want a VW GOLF what aother diesel could you be given?
Looking to see if a phone call to Rentalcars will get a further discount as previous rentals have.

I had a great experience with Indigocarhire.co.uk last year.
Through them i was able to get a 2nd driver without extra charge.

So after 48hrs of checking fine print and after the first response of connies Ireland I have discovered that "administration costs" are not part of excess and if the car is not in service this is an extra cost after accident.
Therefore extra insurance on top of $5000 Travel insurance excess is required!
Looked to get full protection and found an error on website Rentalcars.com....that they need to workout before can give a quote!
icarinsure.com website no longer allows aussies to get yearly car insurance cover!

Went to book Alamo via rentalcars.com to be informed that Alamo and Enterprise dont allow external insurance......
Ended up with Eurocar with full protection via rentalcars.com....phonecall gets better rate in $AU.

Hi,

anyone had any recent experience in hiring rental cars in Ireland - mainly the Republic of Ireland ?

i am mainly looking for a one or two days hire from Galway.

also looking - probably HERTZ - for about 7-8 days in Northern Ireland.

TIA

Get external insurance or something that covers 100% whoever you go with...... Eurocar charged card for damage that appeared from??????

Hi...after having started this thread we ended up using HERTZ for Ireland, England, Scotland and Sweden Car Hires. England and Scotland were very cheap (as in about half the cost). Ireland cost more.

All but Sweden were one way and with Hertz the one ways fees were nil for my hires. Booked early (only paid later) to secure cheap rates when compared to other companies. I had a corporate rate with them that helped.

Our Irish trip ended up being 9 days of driving plus extra non driving days in Dublin.

We landed at Shannon, drove NE to theCliffs of Moher and then went south to do the three rings and then along the south coast and then up to Dublin. We had fabulously sunny weather for almost the entire trip with only half a day of rain.

INSURANCE
Just in case I topped up with a 12 month policy
https://www.worldwideinsure.com/policy-wordings/2018/CER-WW-18_v1.pdf
to cover the things that the insurance that comes with the vehicle does not cover. This also covered me for trips in Oz in additional to my 4 car hires 3 of which were fora week or so. This was low cost and very cheap peace of mind IMO, ad saved paying the for the large excess insurance from the car rental companies..
