Car hire Tasmania. Which company?

Something else that has always struck me about some destinations in Tasmania is the issue of parking. Expensive hotels/apartments only offering street parking. It's always put me off taking one of my cars, or even hiring something decent.

What's the concern? We're an honest bunch :) . But seriously, I agree with you. The older places perhaps understandable but the new builds without on-site parking is poor. In Hobart, three recent new builds - Ibis styles has a small number of parks under the building, else they send you off to a multi-story car park. The Crowne Plaza - zero parking available and not even a dedicated drop-off spot outside the door! Their multi-story car park option is 10 minutes away. The new Vibe has a multi story car park next door, where you pay the commercial rate course The under-construction top-of-the-brand Marriott is another conversion, on a heritage site, so I doubt any parking there, either.

Wrest Point in Hobart has scads of parking - can't deter the punters :)

Has anyone hired a courier van or a ute with, for example, Avis or Budget commercial truck hire?

Noticed that this option is less than half the price compared to going with a standard car hire like an i30 or Kia Rio.

It was the same with Sixt when their car prices were crazy.

I did this a couple of years ago when an 8 seater van was way cheaper than a car. When I went to pick it up they said did I really want a van and I said no but it was cheap so they offered to switch it but didn't have anything available then but I switched it a couple of days later for no fee (this was Hertz in the UK)

Hertz and Budget in particular hire a lot to courier companies so often have decent stock.
I do know of some having long term leases on them
