Hi guys,

I need to rent a car for 11 days in socal in december. I was wondering what is the best way. i used to use netflights as it had the best deals (i need excess free option) which was great. But its been a long time since i have done this therefore i suspect the landscape as changed.

I used to also dabble in the executive isle roulette but I no longer hold status.

I would much appreciate any advice!

Thank you in advance.

I got a really good deal hiring from Europcar for a hire at LAX, but by using .co.uk website instead of com.au or .com. No idea why they offer a different price based on the domain, but it works well for me

otherwise there is a gazillion online rental car websites. Suggest start with google and expedia and work from there.

thanks for that. i agree the co.uk is good. seems to be useful for other companies as well. sixt however is exactly the same based on my search in the last 12 months in non american countries.

All a bit of luck.
I (hope I) have quite flash wheels cheap as chips LasV next week from Sixt, but good 'ol Avis was cheapest for a few days prior in sfo.
Hertz had a really great premium deal offer in LasV a few weeks out but the prices skyrocketed as the inventory was booked… caveat emptor.
I won't use second string companies and I won't use resellers, so that limits me.

sixt was good for me on the uk with a disco for 10 days. i need to check avis and thrifty shortly with fingers crossed !!

Hi scheps.

Can I ask how your rental car experience went on your recent trip?
I have an upcoming trip where I will also be hiring a car for about 11 days out of the SoCal area.
So far I've also found that the rental companies co.uk website domains have provided cheaper rental prices.

hey mate. i ended up with an infinity qx60 with hertz for 938 usd for 11 nights. the usual unlimited km and zero excess with amex code giving 10% off.

i suspect there isn't a single method that consistently provide the cheapest deal. i think type of car and need for zero excess etc with vary the deal you can get by various resellers. are you tied to airport pick up?

i did my usuallychecks and didn't seem to change much compared to when i last rented a few years ago.

let me know what you are after and maybe i can comment or help more specifically.

Thank you for your reply.
Seems you did well at that price for that class of vehicle and no excess.

I looked at an inner city Avis rental location, however was a little surprised to see the quote was $50US more than the airport's rental location.
I am pleased witht the price I have quoted through Avis' co.uk website, although gut feeling is that its too good to be true.
I'm just trying to work out if that price on the uk website has the same standard inclusions that come up with on Avis' other international websites.

i presume you have tried the others as i have never had great success with avis. consider trying netflights and see if you get lucky. there is a small booking fee though. quidco is handy for 12% cashback if avis.co.uk is used.

Just be careful as there’s no real concept of an excess in the US for rental cars. You’re either insured or you’re not.

It’s really whether the rate you book includes LDW, CDW and whatever else you require. You’re then waived of responsibility for further charges.

I continue to use Argus. Last one came thru Alamo and we have been happy with the Nissan, the Kia and the Toyota. Yes not a Lexus but for a short hire of 7 to 14 days quite ok for freeway runs. Pricing in California is quite modest but I don’t bother with hiring luxury when I am there for work.
Sixth upset me with a fresh passport request so I have never gone back as they forced me to go to fetch my passport when a month earlier it wasn’t needed.
