Carrying case of wine MEL-SYD

Yep my point was just how much people get away with, weight wise. There are size restrictions and if you do go over the 105cm to 115cm, it becomes 1x 7kg again.

I can easily get 10kgs into a 105cm.

Well as it states on the side of the 6 pack of wine that it weighs 7kg. So you would be allowed to take on 2 x 6 packs, thus on a Qantas Jet service you would be allowed to carry a 12 pack case of wine just in two 6 packs.

Not sure about that as when I weigh a bottle it is 1.5kg and that weight was quoted earlier on in this thread at 18kg per dozen. So I;m not sure how this ads up.

Not sure how wine is moved around today, but the old "bottle shock " concerns with a premium wine concern me. Having said that I brought some Eileen hardy back from Adelaide and it went in the hold. My theory being it will sit undisturbed in my vintner for the next 7 or 8 years ( or more) in the hope it will age gracefully and recover form the journey. , watch this space for regular updates in about ooooh say 5-10 years :-).

Mostly australia post. It would get as much hammering travelling in your car or plane trip you can't do much when its young. Mine gets posted from SA. Australia post have improved and don't break as many. You now get the full dozen. :)

From wikipedia: The average weight of an empty 75 cl wine bottle is 500 g (and can range from 300 to 900 g), which makes the glass 40% of the total weight of the full bottle.

So 6 x (500g +750g) assuming a water weight = 7.5Kg (on average).

So it very much depends on the bottle...

I don't know where you got 18kg from earlier in the thread the discussions were around the 15kg but it is all up in the air stuff really as I am reading this off the side of the box I have in front of me (7kg for the 6 bottles of wine!) It would have to be right as they would have to have the correct weight on there for shipping purposes. Do you really want me to get the scales out?

Just took the scales down to the bottles. Sampled different bottles that ranged from 1110gm to 1470gm that averaged at 1250gm per bottle and the older corked bottles were heavier by at least 150grams (Must be the sludge down the bottom). Wonder if using screw tops allows thinner bottles that don't have to cope with the pressure when inserting the cork???

See Post #6

I grabbed the first bottle off the rack which was corked that weighed 1470gms, I actually did not know what they weighed and placed that bottle on the scales just to confirm the weight.

Can't hurt !

Thank you Robmn, very informative, so it does seem that around 7.5kg for a 6 pack is on the money. And you saved me having to get the scales out!
