The theory behind the Carv is to let you know when you are back seat in your stance.
The correct stance results in shin pressure against the front of the boot
1) I would not recommend it for beginners
2) To benefit you need to know what to do to correct the fore-aft body position
3) Best advice I can give is to get personal boots - dont hire ski boots. And don't get a stiff boot because of 4)
4) in the skiing moment, one of the ways to be forward in your stance is don't stand on your toes. A lot of people do that subconsciously. Lift your big toe up and pressure the ball of your foot by bending AT THE ANKLE. This requires a soft boot which allows you the bend the ankle
4a) People who say their foot is lifting up in the boot is really saying they are not bending at the ankle. They are in effect standing on their toes and straightening their ankle making the foot lift up in the boot.
4b) skiing is not bending the knee . For most people bending the knee just puts them more back seat. Bend the ankle first and the knee will follow
