CASA serves TT with show cause notice

This story is getting a lot more airtime than I thought - was one of the lead stories on ABC last night.

Didn't help that the Tiger spokesperson was hopeless - aggressive and issued a statement with grammar of a grade 3 student.

Bit unrelated but apparently DJ and TT are fighting over space at SYD domestic - currently they share on of the budget terminal piers.... Sure DJ was cheering when they saw how big this story has been made...

Tiger gains 35% more in currency exchange as it converts its profits to Singapore dollars. Where as Jetstar Asia loses that as it converts its profits to AUD.

Also compared to the last fuel hike where it hit TT hard, they are now only flying trunk, higher yield routes, and the currency is in their favour alot more than 2008.
Well the whole Tiger group had profits of $S14.1 million for the first 6 months of their 2010/11 financial year so this is not a great factor.
Plus whether you buy fuel in $S or $A the price is the same allowing for currency differences.

Just talked to mrs.dr.ron and apparently TT has been getting a bit of stick re the number of cancelled TT flights into MCY.Went to flight stats and the percentage of on time departures for TT MEL-MCY is 0%.Pretty impressive!

The main problems have been sorted, Tiger are maneuvering toward a new internal structure that will overcome all of this.

CASA's main problem was one certain A320 which has now had heavy maintenance work (1.5weeks) and now defect free. It cost the company 40 cancelled flights but they got there. Staff issues were another problem but being sorted.

Pilot slipping standards is rubbish. There is no cadet schemes nor cheap seats up front being offered. Its more the "safety department" slipping standards. Slipping standards in this case means no staff left in some management departments, especially the safety dept.

Thanks SunStar320.

I was thinking of cancelling all of my TT flights, but now I can see it is flat out CPA (continuous partial attention) by the big Gorilla running the local operation. Gotta wonder if phantom staff in departments was intentional or not - Managerial inexperience, not keeping things ship shape. Looking at the 'Contact Us' lines I can believe this. The HM blunder was inexcusable.

I don't expect Tiger to apologize, but I expect them having to hire/increase the payroll will cause a few arteries to swell. CASA has bitten them, but ACCC and fair trading may also get interested if 'Customer service/Relations' gets whiteanted.

With the above in mind, I may book some non-critical flights with them, if they are competitive. If they don't buck up on-time performance, then that won't be the case.

I am leaning to not flying with them again because of chewing gum is everywhere - yuk, just look at the floor. And the extra 1-2 inches of seat space on Virgin is also very attractive.

Sunstar320,

I hope you are right with this but I have just come across the following articles.

Singapore's Tiger Airways's subsidiary in Australia has received a warning from the air safety regulator because of some concerns on its maintenance and flight trainings.

Have a flight with them next weekend AVV-SYD, not concerned.

I trust the regulators enough to know that if there was a real threat, they wouldn't be allowed to fly.

The have been cases in the past were it was shown the regulators were to slow to act.
