Cathay Pacific Asia Miles upgrade

Hi

does anyone know how to use Asia Miles to upgrade only part of a trip? I have enough Amex FF points to upgrade the Hong Kong-Rome-Hong Kong sectors of a return trip Sydney-Rome-Sydney, but I don't want to transfer them into the Cathay Pacific Asia Miles scheme without some guarantee that I can use them for only 2 sectors of a 4 sector flight. I can't get any sense out of Amex Travel or Cathay.

Help!
