and then they say sorry our flight is all full you missed out go int he next flight.. is that possible?

That's very unlikely to happen. That will be denied boarding.

Like I said, even with a new booking on CX from MEL to HKG you can't select a seat (except an expensive extra-legroom) in the cheaper economy booking classes (N, O, Q ...). And it shows all the "standard" seats as "unavailable". Higher booking classes, which come with free seat selection, show the seats as "available".

3: what is this new rollout thing you people talking about ?

It's on the CX website that I linked to. The 'Reserve your seat' for payment is being rolled out by them.

OP, I am not sure I get the reluctance to name the airline in question? By naming the flight number you have purchased that you are having issues with, others on here may have had similar experience that they can relay back on here

Again thanks to Austman and others.

So it's quite normal that a passenger will still not have a seat locked in as yet until at least 2 days before departure correct?

My silly theory was that.. the conclusion that when I get there they might say I'm sorry you missed out and no seats available for both of you and so on. I mean that would be horrible if that was to happen. But that's only example and as always you know each airline has different rules in relation to seats.

And I have people here wanting to know the airline. You wouldn't be much helpful then what I get from the professionals when I call cx on the phone so flight number would be nothing to you. It's just a A350-900 Cathay pacific flight departing midnight from Australia to hk. Aprox 8 hour flight 8 think.

All bookings are N

All this is responsible by the European airline I'm going with starting from Hong Kong to Europe. But with all respect they say they cant help me a way to lock a seat for you both on that cx flight.. they say call cx and try. But even I call cx they cant lock in the seat like I said enough time they say come to the website cx 2 days before departure.

So ok I guess I will do that for now.. just worried about the seats if incase there won't be non for us.. as I prefer to get things organised in advance and not at the very last minute. You get the idea.

Anyhow all good. A land still didn't get the question about . When 2 days starts so I can select seats.. how do I know there will be more open seats? If I can see right now 14 seats left.. doesn't mean 2 days before departure will show more on the seat maps.. or am I wrong? I see the while economy seats and many has X on each seats. Only 14 left available are free but I cant lock it in even if i press save it jsut dosnr ever work.

So even if u check in online to select seats.. how do you know there will be more open seats? Maybe there might be what I can currently see today 14 of them. By 2 days before departure there might be maybe much less then that or non at all. But yeah was only curiosity.

Lastly airlines needs to give passengers a fair go this is stressful. Only worried because aw w it feels like I'm going to miss out our seats in this aircraft if it becomes too late. So airlines needs to change this for fair go to everybody regardless your a non member and so on. Not only cx but many airlines might have this issue as well. So I rather one day see this rule change for the better for the sake of the passenger at least. After all your paying for the trip to best not ayve so much rules into what u can and can't so.

Thanks again. Sorry for all this. As u see I'm usut worried but only because it feels that I dont have no where to seat. Other then if wish I was lucky to be put on business class then that be awesome..

With all due respect OP, having pot shots at those requesting flight/airline details is out of line.

1 - It has already been mentioned that whilst you may be able to see 14 seats available, there may or may not be more seats available but you can't see or don't have access to. By providing flight details and dates, a member who may have access to such platforms like Expert Flyer can check what the seat map looks like and/or what the loadings show.

2 - Members on here have clocked up many miles. Whilst you may find it stressful, if you are forthcoming with a few more details as requested they can help alleviate any fears or stresses that you may have.

There is no need to be defensive...

So you reckon there are more hidden seats available but i cant see that? Then why do i see 14 seats available? they wouldn't need to hide the rest if there was such a thing.

Its only frustration because well like you and anybody would rather off be more organised and prepared so that then at least you have your favourite windoe seat.... Rather then random the unexpected. I dont like the extra leg room seats these dont have a window and that is in-front of people walking by if you rather want to have a comfortable sleep.

You said: there may or may not be more seats available but you can't see or don't have access to. And to you i say fair enough. But how do you know that? have you experience that with cx before ?

And again the new rollout. Is this new rollout better then before? and if so why can;t i still save a seat the so what new rollout by cx.

My flight is pretty much after Christmas. So i know that maybe this flight will be very full by the time i get there.. I was told one time that since it is a midnight flight departing from Australia it is more popular because passengers prefer to get to Hongkong early morning arrival.. But i wouldnt no

In fact it be my first time flying with cx.. always wanted to give them a go.. But not the unexpected seat issue thing.. Oh tho its not an issue its a rule by cx and not directly just how my booking tickets are design.

But like i said i wish airlines like this could change that to give passangers a fair go and im sure anyone reading this would agree.. you better off be more organised and advance seating choice rather then been stressful with no seat yet. Even worse if you are a person with 2 kids with you... and then you end up having your kids separated out on the aircraft. Not a nice feeling. Each trip people make is history in the making. Not to make it the worse out of it.

Anyhow i will keep trying but i doughy it will ever work until at least 48 hours before departure... and thats when you have to be quick at selecting a seat at that time because thats when anyone else in that flight might be doing the same. Almost like been lucky or unlucky to get that seat fast before the someone takes it off you next.

Its a A350-900 not sure how nice the economy seats are like. I heard they have bigger tv screens ? But i dont think they can provide quality silent headphones. Tho i have a expensive headphones i brought the other day for the porpose of my whole trip on economy as the BOSE headphones are expensive they are design to reduce the sound of the plane and pleasant on music on what your watching on screen.. Most airlines give cheap headphones that are not silent. But lucky to have my own now and also the airline plugin too just incase.

Just curious with you members have you people have flown before with Cathay pacific before and also on the new A350-900 CX ? I know there is also a A350-1000 but thats not the one im flying with.

So it's quite normal that a passenger will still not have a seat locked in as yet until at least 2 days before departure correct?

It's quite common in cheaper booking classes. Some airlines want to charge you for seat selection until check-in opens (and even sometimes after that if you want to change the seat that's been automatically allocated to you) and it seems CX is introducing that.

So you reckon there are more hidden seats available but i cant see that? Then why do i see 14 seats available? they wouldn't need to hide the rest if there was such a thing.

When you see the 14 seats are you on your European airline's booking site or are you on Cathay Pacific's website? Airlines will routinely block seats for many reasons so it's pretty common that you might not see all of them.

I have - it's a very nice aircraft.

I log into CX website directly and i see the whole booking flights and specially the european flight. But CX website lets me view the while plane seats on economy.. But not as premium seats. Anyways i see 14 seats in green which is open available. The rest seats shows as X which means they are all taken i presume right ?

P.s if i go to my eurpean airline website that i paid the the full trip... it has Australia to HK blocked as in unable to do edit or changes or anything on that particular flight. But if i go to cx i can see the cx flight australia to hk and do the changes but not much just seat available option but of course it gets rejected.

And since i log into the eurpean airline website i can edit and change seats freely or extra pay or meals and so on with no issues what so ever only for all of the european aircraft im going with.. But this Cathay pacific cant or hardly nothing much i can do until 48hours before depature.. and yeah i heard his cx is a nice plane on he 350-900

I think you told me but i will ask one more time. Is it possible that lets say i couldn't still select a seat 48hour before departure because iw as too late and then by the time i get to the airport cx staff will say (im sorry there are no seats for both of you on this please come back the next day for the following flight) is that very possible? Considering you see i currently have no locked in seats and only makes it feel as if im not going with this aircraft.. but it be sceptical concertising if the aircraft becomes full next. But if that was to happen wouldn't that be stealing my money or something for something i paid months ago in advance ? Remember airlines do have their own consequences and rules.. so im only curious with cx.

Several of us here have offered to help you, and to do this, it would help greatly if you tell us the name of the airline its booked under.

Is it Finnair? If its a code share it could be that the rules of seating are NOT CX, but the airline whose code is on the flight. If you choose not to assist us in finding that out, then we can't help you.

Last offer - then I might get suspicious that I'm having my leg pulled here (in fact I have that feeling already).
