I'm looking to fly CX (BKK-HKG-NRT) in the next few weeks and other than the seating layout (herringbone vs. typical) are there any other differences I should be aware of? Or will it come down to the "New Business Class" vs. the "Old"?

Last time I flew CX J, it was in the herringbone layout HKG-ADL; I didn't mind the layout (flat-bed allowed me to actually sleep), so I'm interested in other's thoughts and opinions.

It's likely on the routes you're flying you'll either get the regional J or the old longhaul J. You might get the new longhaul J, especially if it's 77W, I suppose. (My money is on that you'll get a regional config plane for BKK-HKG).

Other than that, the other product (like food) will be the same irrespective of the seat config. Anything else you'd fancy to know? Just ask...

I personally do not like herringbone J, and out of the carriers I've flown with it - VS, NZ and CX (old) - I find CX's the worst. If you're a fitter person than I am, you probably won't mind it, and it's shown in your OP.

The regional J is just a recliner - think QF J Dreamtime seats, quite similar.

The new CX longhaul J looks very good, if you're lucky to get it.

If you get a 3-class plane (i.e. F, J and Y), there is always a chance that you may get upgraded from J to F. Many QFF elites on this board have experienced such success (mainly WPs) - I have never been so lucky (but in my flying of intra-Asia CX, I've only had one such opportunity to get upgraded to F). I'm not sure what F service is like on an intra-Asia route, but it should be pretty nice, if not the seat will be great.

Thanks for the update anat01 - 77W was the preferred flight I'm looking at, as it's not a return leg option. As you pointed out, it might be my luck, that I'll actually land a regional J configuration, so hopefully selecting the 77W will help in that regard. (Of course, they could change it anyway!)

Food wasn't my major concern, more the ability to grab some shut-eye, as I can't take the flight the night before, and have a meeting at 9:30 the same morning. . . . . .

Also note that CX regional flights frequently have aircrafts swapped. These days, I don't even look at the config anymore when I book.
