Sorry for the new thread; I am currently in Hong Kong right now and need to withdraw around ~USD$10K.

Can I just walk into one of their branches and withdraw that amount? Have proper ID etc etc

highly doubt it - i wasnt able to withdraw in Citi PH with a Citi HK account

give it a go, id be surprised though, their retail operations are pretty amateur...

They have emergency cash withdrawal at citi branches overseas, however you need to call them to confirm the limits.

Travelling Overseas - Citibank Australia

They only provide this as an absolute last resort if you have no other cards and they try to get you to do it from a credit card not a bank account, I tried it in HK from an AU account Citi and they refused to do it as they knew I had cash in my HK Citi accounts...

I couldn't even get money out of a Citibank ATM in Hong Kong with my Citibank Plus card the other day (screen message said to phone Citi Sydney)! Fortunately there was a HSBC ATM right next to the Citibank one which happily spat out my money. Gosh....

I think you have two/three options.
Go into a Citibank Hong Kong branch and ask if you can do it.
Ring Citibank Australia and see if it can be arranged.
Alternatively you could withdraw the equivalent of AUD1000 a day at an ATM for numerous days!

In my dealings with Citibank Hong Kong retail I found them to be excellent.
However such an amount may be outside their limits.

Is it possible to ring Citi Australia and ask them to increase the $1k limit?

Otherwise bring your passport and open a Citi HK transaction account, then do a free global transfer. Easy for foreigners to open a bank account in HK.

Didn't work when I was in HK earlier this year.
Though I expected that, as when I opened my citi account I asked and was told that citi operate as different entities in each country and don't share accounts between them.

Also, the limit is per card. If you operate a joint account, then each card will independently be able to withdraw 1k AUD per day.

This may be the best move... global transfers are done via your online banking and are instant

Thanks for the good suggestions. I managed to arrange a nonCB bank transfer to the recipient. Cheers.
