CBA cuts QFF points

When i received my letter from CBA the other day advising the changes it was actually a good thing as it reminded me to cancel the card in the next month as I'm coming up on the yearly fee for the next year.

Just have to then wait a couple of months to re apply for the ANZ offerings.

Doesn't hurt to wait and see, plus fee free is the bait ... Who knows - it might end up being a high earner once the others play follow the leader.

You may be right, give it till the end of the year and let's see who else has 'enhanced' the earn rates :)

Just heard back from my relationship manager with a rather disappointing response.

The first part sounds very copy and paste and doesn't actually address my concern
Our product remains competitive with the market. One suggestion is to opt out of Qantas Direct Earn and in to CommBank Awards – if you chose to do this, you can earn up to 1 million awards points annually to redeem at partners such as Flight Centre (any airline, any seat etc), Myer or for a number of gift cards.

He then offers as a one off to waive the $30 as a one off as a gesture of goodwill.

Based on this, I will be exploring other options for both a credit card and possible loans as well.

I think CBA is working on the assumption that all other providers will drop the earn rates and its a race to the bottom.

wow! $30 discount

id change to the CBA awards program however I want to use it for business class travel tickets so the flight centre conversion doesnt work positively for me

I just want to stop shopping around for cards and deals and programs

Bankwest is a business name of CBA and if you want QF points.......

Start with Bankwest Platinum and move up to Bankwest World if you are not wanting to leave CBA and Qantas points suit you.

Bit of a disappointment, however Im in the camp of it being a good thing.

TBH I haven't really looked around for many years due to being charged at the gold price for a platinum card. So this is a good push to start shopping around.

Saw an advert in the local paper - CBA offering a $1,500 cash-back if you swap your home loan to them.

I would use this as additional leverage for getting the wealth fee waived.

"Not only are you reducing the benefits to me but your are offering $1,500 for people to switch their home loan to the CBA. What are you going to offer me to stay?"

Looks like most of the banks are following suit.
can anyone share the link to the most recent Credit Card comparison, with and without FF points?
I'm sure it will be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Chris

so I have NAB platinum and ANZ Black and they no longer accept ATO payments and have introduce caps on points and reduced rates ..... so what is the answer here?

Isn't that what is going to happen eventually?

I think this is the beginning of the end. RBA wants to tinker with interchange rates again. Banks won't give up their multi-billion dollar profits, merchants are getting antsy about increased fees, so it's down to you and I to keep the banks solvent.

As I am retired, and spending as little as possible to preserve savings, and survive on the pension, I cannot earn as many points these days. I try to put everything I can on my ANZ Amex, but am growing weary of businesses who won't take Amex, and I have to use my Woolworths Visa Card. I'm not enamoured with Woolworths/Macquarie, but I cannot get a new card anywhere else now.

On my rare travels I usually fly Air Asia and look for bargains, so FF points are no longer much use, mainly because I never had enough, and the age old problem of not being able to get a flight anyway. I have finally reached the conclusion of the futility of FF points. I have the 280k QF points I need for a biz class trip to London and back, but realistically, am I ever going to be able to get a flight? Probably not. I have no status. The burn rate will change again soon, as QF need to constantly "enhance" the program to keep it fresh!

So I think I will soon be saying goodbye to FF points and schemes. They no longer work for me. In the early days they were great, I had many flights on American, Delta, TWA, and United way back in the 80's, and started with QF right at the beginning. But the glory days have long gone.

I'm better to go somewhere like ING and use their cashback scheme now I think, and forget about points.

I currently pay $250 for my diamond card,

unforutnately I dont have a loan with CBA so I dont get a discount,

Has anyone found a similar program?

to be honest if Icant find a better program or card, ill probably just accept the fact the ratio is now different and live my life, very disappointedly though

I would certainly shop around.

I have been a previous ANZ customer and I only cancelled in August last year due to the annual fee which ANZ were not prepared to waive annual once again ( after paying the annual fee for 2 years running).

If I apply to ANZ sometime after August this year , 12 months since cancellation , I would be considered a new customer and eligible for promotion sign up bonuses which historically ANZ are far more generous than CBA in offering towards attracting new customers.

In a nutshell, i would look towards other banks, ANZ in particular, so long as they don't devaluate the earning capabilities in the meantime.

I think worth waiting a little longer until everyone's put through their devaluations so you know where things stand. Haven't heard anything from Westpac yet. Also, the Bank issued Amex might have their fees regulated to MasterCard/Visa levels which would make them useless. Hopefully Amex issued cards will continue to be unregulated.

Time for Bankwest!
It is a CBA business name.

I'm hoping bankwest don't cut further. They nerfed the platinum MC go 0.75 just after I joined. If it wasn't for the free upgrade to world I would have left.
