Drats, I would have come along if there were decent airfares to CBR tomorrow!

Have fun. I presume DJ will have their EMB jet there (perhaps wth another 737).

Would have been quite nice for a walkthrough and photo session of the various planes.

Oh well. Perhaps next year will be possible.

Well went today and had a good time. Qantas had their 767 there which was nice to go through, able to have a quick look at the coughpit. Had the pink plane there as well, Bombardier 400 which I also got to go through.

Because I went to the Qantas planes first the queue for the DJ plane was very, very long and I didn't go through it.

They had a joy fight on the B400 for $50. Did this and now have a boarding pass showing 'Canberra Antarctica'. The turbulence was amazing, they had to keep going higher, however, I really felt it and actually held onto the sick bag for most of the flight.

The flight went for about 50 minutes and went around CBR with sites pointed out and then over Batemans Bay.

They had a pink cup cake and champagne for the adults. Although I don't drink I took a bottle (200ml) and it is now sitting in my fridge. :)

Also got to see the coughpit of the B400 upon disembarkation.

The Qantas promotional staff were really enjoying the day and were very happy to talk and pose for photos etc, a real credit to Qantas.

I only found out about the open day this afternoon. Had I known, I would definitely have been there bright an early to see the various planes. And to think I missed a $50 joy flight. Any status credits? :D

Not that I can complain, since my CBR-SYD flight was upgraded to the aforementioned 767. On takeoff, our climb was the most extreme I have experienced and akin to a rocket launch (probably a result of our light load and maxing out the engines).

Visits to the QP at both ends and some light plane spotting made for an awesome weekend.

With Qantas airfares > $300 return, little chance I'll be there this year either!

DJ have $89 down and $209 back (DJ Down/Qantas back would mean about $250 total), but the early flight would be a bit of a killer.

As I said last year - perhaps next year.

Man I must be a killjoy...

I couldn't think of anything more boring to do on a weekend not working than to go to an airport!

Mind you, with my job, I have been below, on airside as well as in the buildings and facilities at MEL and SYD - so I guess there's no wonder I wouldn't be interested...

Mrs! and I were in ADL the open day at the new terminal - we couldn't believe that so many people (bus loads) wanted to go to an airport for a day out.... hmmmmm

Mr!

I am looking at doing the following.

BNE-CBR on DJ 73G
CBR-MEL on TT A320
MEL-OOL on JQ(A321)

Nice day out me thinks.

Well another open day over and all went well.

Several planes to visit. The Minerology plane looked quite luxurious. We were only allowed to have a look at the cabin from the entrance and then the coughpit. I was first in so no waiting.

Went on the joy flight over Yass, Cowra etc. Again a full plane so many dollars raised for Breast Cancer in the pink Dash 8.

Funniest thing though was when the plane landed a baggage carted headed over, opened the baggage door and didn't realise there was nothing there. :D The driver seemed a bit bemused. Naturally the pax were laughing because we knew we hadn't loaded any luggage.

Dumb people: there were lots of notices about how loud the Hornet was going to be, ear plugs handed out and repeated warnings.

So when it came and made a lot of noise why were people surprised and the occasional whinge heard? You cannot say you weren't warned.

I'd forgotten about the Open Day... and we were outdoors were only a few k's from the end of the runway... so the F-18 came as a bit of a surprise....

The noise didn't bother us though... not really surprising as we were engaged in a "Practical Pistol" competition... so we had good ear protection in already! :D:D:mrgreen:
