Got home today and found a centurion invitation in my letterbox!

As "flattering" as that is I wont be accepting unless I see some changes at work (charge travel to my own card and book my own travel etc.) as I can't justify $4300.

What is bizarre is why me?

I don't earn that much, last year I put 90K through the card which is no even close to the 250K limit so this seems weird...

I think at $2500 I might have done it but this is a bit much. Maybe when I turn forty it might be a treat for me ;)

Well, congrats anyway!

Whereas I can't even get the Amex website to give me a credit limit increase!

In one month I spend double my credit limit so I have to keep topping it up, and I've never missed a payment (and pay in full). Very annoying!

Congratulations Simon!

Do they still send the cards out with the offer? They did for me five or so years back (having the cards in front of you must surely increase take up) but the cards were plastic back then. Now they are metal I have been wondering whether they go to the expense of making up the cards in advance or, if not, what is in the new offer package?

Anyway I agree that the annual fee is a bit rich. It was cheaper when I got mine and I just wasn't able to give up the card when the price was hiked a couple of years ago. Now I just try to forget about the fee each year... :)

Sort of... They sent me a black booklet showing the benefits and on the front was a metal card - but not with my name on it.

Interestingly if I was booking my own travel I could easily save $3000 per year that I currently spend on cars to/from the airports...

Hi everyone :) my first post on this community.

Does anyone have an concrete information on Australian Centurion requirements? I called the platinum team and all they could do is state that they cannot divulge any information to preserve the exclusivity and mystique of the card.

For the people that have received the invitation, what was your approx spend for that year?

American Express won't tell you the requirements. I have heard an annual spend figure of something like $150,000 + (certainly that was all I was spending with Amex when I got my invite) and it seems likely that you'd have to be on the Platinum charge card for them to notice you.

I think the requirements are more than spend based. I put $100K plus per month through a Plat Charge Card and have not been invited.

Although the fee would put me off.

Is that personal expenditure? I was also told that it has to be personal expenditure and not, say, a small business owner putting his phone bills and cars, etc, through the card. If that's personal expenditure then I can't understand why you haven't had an invite - I think you'd make a great customer!

Hi homer,

Most of it is business related so that explains why I have not been invited.

Would be nice to have an invite but like simongr I would say no as the extras over Plat would not be worth $3000 to me.

Yes the extra cost is something I thought a fair bit about in the first year or two (and it was much cheaper then!). I suppose for many of the Centurion members the cost is insignificant. I reckon I get it back these days but that's after working to maximise my use of the various services and benefits.

One of my friends is doing ~200K/month through the card with all business spend and has had no invite (and has called many times with no luck)

It's got to do with the quality of the merchant you use.

$100k spend with "building supplies ltd" is not the same as $100k spend with "tiffany & co"....

This is how amex can tell if it's business or personal....

for the experts, can you please tell, what sort of expenses can be put through to make $200k in month in purchases, as in my experience, many business accounts don't accept credit cards in general, just bank transfers

Hi,

Fuel/airfares/Phone/power are just the easy ones.

On top of that many other suppliers take Amex.

Next time you're paying a bill and it's of a hefty amount, try something like this....

"You're going to take amex and I'm not paying your bull**** transaction fee".

Then stare right into their eyes.

Works everywhere, including large law firms.

Persistance, confidence and never carrying a Visa/MC pays dividends :!:

alrighty, i might try that but with less attitude, ive got a $1300 lawyers bill, who only accept visa/mc, I might try this , but i dunno how successful Ill be, they will probably just say that I need to use THEIR methods or they'll take me to the cleaners!!!

Unless you have a large spend on an ongoing basis I don't you will have much luck.
