Unless you have a large spend on an ongoing basis I don't you will have much luck.

for some reason my gut tells me that unless its a small one man operation, these business with the no Amex policy will simply tell you to get lost if you tell them you only have an amex, and since they are lawyers, they'll be pretty good with their legal action against you if you don't pay

not necessarily... just read any docs you signed with them for details on payment terms.

remember - everything in life can be negotiated except death (yes, even taxes can be negotiated and paid on amex)

However it is easier to be negotiating from a position of strength, rather than one of weakness (in this case, one would presume that a client with a $1,300 bill is not a significant portion of the total revenue of the practice).

You hit the nail on the head Lindsay, no business is going to loose 3% of their accounts to small debtors, over say 100 clients this adds up. However for the top 10% of their clients, who are in the "Clive Palmer" range, it's a case of whatever your heart desires Sir !....................
