I have never received free champagne or any other special type of benefit (maybe you need to ask for it?).

There is no need to ask for the champagne, however it only applies at a handful of restaurants in Sydney - the ones I named plus one or two more - and none outside of Sydney AFAIK. If you don't get the champagne at Aria or the dessert at Quay, as examples, then I'd be mentioning it at the time. Also it goes without saying that you need to book through the Centurion concierge otherwise the restaurant won't know that you are entitled to the benefit.

Hmm... been to Aria a few times with no champagne. Not to worry, it's certainly not the be all and end all, but will keep this in mind for next time.

Yeah the free champagne isn't the only reason to go to the restaurant - but the OP was asking about tangible ways to justify the annual fee and this is a (small) part of it. BTW this is the Centurion web site entry for Aria:

* One guaranteed table reservation for up to four people, until 10am each day.
* Enjoy a complimentary glass of Champagne on arrival for all your guests.
* Entertain guests in your home Matthew Moran cooking for you

So if you aren't getting it I'd certainly be asking. Also just a tip - I have found you can also order a round of very good Scotch and they seem to chalk that up under the same freebie code...;)

The thing with Centurion is that if you have to justify the cost - then your'e probably not the kind of customer that AMEX wants to have the card. Think about it - $4300 for a card - or $900 for that matter. Sure you could justify it like this

Travel insurance $1000
Return economy airfare (with free plat cc) $300
Priority pass $300
But....
The value of carrying the card - priceless

The last point is what youre trying to justify - Concierege service and a few other feel good things is about it.

I WOULD go for it!

I've decided I will accept it and see how we go for a year. If I'm not happy, I'll go back to Platinum :)

Basically the biggest benefit is having a hot black card in your wallet and having the occasional Woolworths checkout chick buzz out at how heavy it is... :)

Sometimes I do get my centurion out and look at it, but there is no way I would be seen dead in a supermarket.

Above that are you?

I have better things to do than schlep around the market. One of the reasons my Coop fees are $15K a month is because there is an army of people to run errands, do housework and generally make my life a lot easier.

haha! you'd hope so for that figure.:mrgreen:

TG

I would have very high demands paying $15000 a month.

That figure would buy a very nice Sydney apartment, with money left over for a hard working PA.

But the commute to NY would be a drag...

I thought the Australian ones were just plastic?
I know the American ones are titanium.

"According to Journal International, the average age of a Centurion cardholder is 49 years. 94% of primary cardholders are male and they have an average of 3.3 properties. Their average household income is €653,000 and their average total net worth is €4.5million"

Out of curiosity; To those who have one, how closely does that fit?

The Australian ones used to be plastic. They changed to titanium a couple of years ago.

I got one in my early 30's and, as the primary cardholder, I'm 100% male but the rest sounds about right, as averages go... :)

Please forgive my intrusion on these questions about Centurion invite,as I have been invited to have Amex Platinum charge card with ,plus the platinum c/c. My questions are to prior Plat charge card holders?

Are the airline privilege programs value.
Are the hotel programs value. Overall do you think it is a good value card. If you could provide answers to these questions ,I would be most appreciative.

Plat Charge is great if you travel a lot. Membership to SPG, Priority Pass, avis Preferred, and Hertz. SPG is good for upgrades and PP we use contantly for lounge access (including VB).
