Why are they confiscating empty plastic bottles?
They shouldn't be ... the regulations only apply to products not containers.. ie. liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes.
Who knows why, overzealousness?

Not really funny. Also plenty of people would buy the drink and drink it in the terminal. The issue is with the rule and communication. Nothing to do with the shop selling drinks.Yes but it's still funny that you can buy a drink and then close to boarding they confiscate.
Where is this advertised? Certainly not at checkin. Where else? Why are they confiscating empty plastic bottles? Luckily my daughters expensive plastic water bottle was in checked luggage otherwise that would been gone too.
Well they were on this day. It's sad to work as airport security thinking you actually have an important job to do keeping everyone safe. They shouldn't be ... the regulations only apply to products not containers.. ie. liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes.

Checking for water in bags at the gate on flights to Australia? Must be extremely important. Is it as important as the lifeguard at the Olympic swimming pool?
But there are no gate checks for Australian flights from US, UK or NZ airports (amongst others). it’s all about the security processes of the airport in question.
There’s definitely gate checks on flights to LHR from SIN and KUL. I’m sure others too but I can definitely speak for those two.

How recent have you had gate checks at SIN/KUL to LHR?
Yes, but after the "regular" gate checks at SIN there is/used to be a specific liquids check for Australia bound flights.September 2023 for me on QF2 SIN-LHR.
But SIN gate checks every flight regardless of destination.
I have travelled to Australia from SIN a dozen times over the last 2 years and have not experienced a secondary "liquids" check once past "regular" gate security.Yes, but after the "regular" gate checks at SIN there is/used to be a specific liquids check for Australia bound flights.
Agreed. In fact I’ll go back a few years more than that and over the last 16 years i would have had around 100 departures from SIN to Australia and i have also not once experienced a secondary liquids check after the regular security.I have travelled to Australia from SIN a dozen times over the last 2 years and have not experienced a secondary "liquids" check once past "regular" gate security.
didn't have any such check last month on QF38Yes, but after the "regular" gate checks at SIN there is/used to be a specific liquids check for Australia bound flights.
