Chances of changing redemption booking for points that have expired

My situation is that last June had booked a redemption booking in J from Brisbane to New Delhi on 16 May 2024 for myself and wife. We had booked a Silver Seas cruise that was departing Mumbai on 23 May 2024 to Athens.

Silver Seas only cancelled the cruise last Thursday (frustrating as other Cruise companies cancelled their cruises going through the Red Sea some time ago).

Our return J redemption booking from Europe is from Frankfurt to Brisbane on 16 June 2024.

The points we used for both bookings would have expired. In a perfect world we would like to cancel the flight from Singapore to New Delhi and instead fly through to Europe (we are flexible where we would fly to) from Brisbane either on the same date or a later date. If it is on the same date then we would like to change the flight home from Frankfurt (again we are flexible where in Euprope we fly home from) to around a week earlier.

I have searched about changing redemption flights where the points have expired and understand that subject to availability you can change the flights but if you cancel the points are lost. I do not know if you can change if it must be on the same route.

Before I contact the call centre is anyone able to provide any comments or feedback on changing flights on expired points redemption bookings?

Did you consider flying from one way from New Dehli onto Europe (Frankfurt or somewhere else) ?

J at the minimum Frankfurt
Around $1391 per person (Air Astana)

Qatar $1,775

Thanks for response - I have more points expiring at end of May so would have liked to booked redemption flight. Four weeks ago there were J redemptions (on Singapore website) with LOT or Air India for 61,500 points each.

They have gone now sadly. I have aslo searched United Airlines Mileage Plus and no luck there either for J redemptions.

I have found a Premium Economy fare for Delhi to Rome for $1200 with ITA Airways on their new A330-900 neo which I thought was reasonable. The seats are 7 across in PE.

The cruise was for 18 days so dont need as much time in Europe and would love to shorten the trip if at all possible with a change to the redemption bookings.

I also changed a redemption booking where the underlying points would have expired - but I just swapped it over to another SQ, flight but there was no problem at all.
Knowing that they are SQ it is within their tendency not to will not as they have fought tooth and nail to keep my $400 no show for arriving to check in 3 minutes late and will not accommodate me to the next flight same day unless I pay the noooo showwww fee first. Even though there was someone arguing at the counter and the check in staff was clearly having a bad day because of her.

By way of update I am now in position to change the booking (had to wait as I was dignosed with gallstones and am having the gallbladder out on 1 May).

We have decided to shorten trip to around 3 weeks leaving end of May and change the trip to travel to Cebu. Had checked out that there was availability for the dates we wanted which there was.

Phoned the call centre today and exp;ained what I wanted to do and details of dates and flight numbers.

The person taking the call was very helpful initially and had good English. After entering all of the information she told me she needed to place me on hold to check. After a few minutes she came back and said that someone else would call me back within 48 hours as she could not deal with the request.

Has anyone else experienced that the initial person can not deal with the request and they will arrange a callback? I am worried that by the time they call me back the availabilty may have gone.

SQ called me back this morning. Was able to change the dates and flight destiantion though dates I wanted that were available on Sunday were not available today.

Sadly i had to forfeit 132.500 points being the difference between points used for original booking.

Bussyboy thanks for that. Out of hospital today and procedure went well. The information sheet they give you as you leave the hospital includes that you are not to lift anything heavier than 5kg for 28 days after the operation. Our trip begins 26 days after the operation so I will tell the wife she is to lift the suitcases from home to the airport!

I will recover from the operation. Sadly I will never recover from losing 132,500 KrisFlyer points.

I recently changed a booking with expired points to both a different route and airline.

I'm trying to do something similar but the "Change Flights" button is greyed out in the app. Do I have to ring SQ to change the flight?
