Changes to how you use your $450 Travel Credit

They seem to have some sale fares and not others. What's truly weird is those same sale fares Amex don't have are available to other OTAs.
Also truly weird is that the $570 BA economy fares I mentioned earlier disappeared entirely some time later, yet the $460 BA discount business class fares were available on the same flights.

usually use my Amex Travel credit during the QF DSC booking window, and I have usually be able to find the same domestic and NZ fares on AmexTravel as QF direct.

I do not use it for a complex itinerary likely to need changes as its easier to have those bookings direct with QF.

Rather than start a new thread, wondering if anyone can help with this mystery.

On 17JAN I used QF Amex Ultimate to book BNE-PER for 2pax. Booking confirmation received including with QF PNR and E-ticket numbers.

Today I get my Amex statement and there is no charge for these flights and the credit hasn't been deducted.

However, several other changes from 17Jan are on this statement.

Looking at my Amex travel profile the credit still shows as available to use (to 29Jan24).

Does Amex travel usually take this long to process charges to Amex?

I don't want to end up in a position where there charges don't post until after 29Jan and the system uses next year's credit.

It usually takes no more than 3 business days for it to appear on the statement.
Yes, it's very strange.

The transaction is not even showing as pending.

And the Amex travel portal still says the $450 credit is available to use.

I guess if it posts late I'll just have to argue the toss. Hassle, but what can you do. 🤷‍♂️

So cant seem to find the answer for this, in relation to amex qantas travel credit.

But previously before the travel credit change you could book a QF flight and hotel in the same booking up to $450 value or above ans it would trigger the credit.

Does this still work with the new credit system?

Eg, use amex travel to book a $250 qf flight and in the same booking add a $250 hotel. Total charged to qantas amex ultimate $500. Then in 3 days receive $450 credit to card

Another follow up on this as a word of warning.

The transaction eventually posted just before my travel credit was due to expire and was backdated to the date of purchase.

However, despite spending $706 it was split into two transactions of $353.

The statement credit has not been applied, and I assume this is because Amex split it into two transactions below the $450 spend required.

Sneaky.

I now have the hassle of following up after the 30 day waiting period end. PITA. 🤬

This may have previously worked but was against the terms of the Qantas Amex Ultimate which state the credit needs to be used on QF flights.

I have got the credit for a QF ticket containing both QF and HA flights (SYD-HNL QF & HNL-LAS HA) so I think there is some wriggle room - but think it only worked as it was covered by a single QF fare (even though it wasn't bookable by the QF website).

Hi everyone - is it just me or are the Qantas flight options on Amex Travel much more limited than if I look directly on the Qantas site? For example on Syd to Mel Amex travel only gives me 3-4 morning flight options while there are many many more on the Qantas website? This is for my Qantas Amex Ultimate card

Make sure you've got your filters and search order correct:

- show only Qantas
- sort by earliest take-off

That should get you the all same results that you see on Qantas (with slightly different prices).

Have previously found the Amex site sometimes filters out flights if you’ve selected morning, afternoon or evening time periods.

Thanks - I tried this but unfortunately still doesn't work.

For example, if I try and book Syd to Mel on 3rd May (2 adults, 1 child) - Amex Travel only gives me the flight at 8.45am as an option. There are clearly many more available on Qantas' website. I've double checked filters as per above. Might have to give Amex a call to sort it out

Thanks - didn't have any of these filters selected so not sure what's going on :(

Update on this:

As expected, the $450 statement credit did not appear within the 30 days stated in the Terms.

I've been trying to reach Amex via online chat since Thursday and each time I get this.

My suspicion is that it's just not staff.

But just in case, I've tried a couple of browsers and turned off extensions that might be interfering but get the same result.

Has anyone successfully used the chat function in the last week or so?

I've had a lot of issues with Amex that have finally been resolved. I had issues with the chat as well . At one stage it timed out because their agent didn't respond in time. PITA

Disappointed to see the price differentiation now between Qantas and Amex travel for QF fares.

Last time I used the $450 credit, 12 months ago, fares were were pretty much the same, and included red-e deal and sale fares. This morning domestic J sale fares that were $459 and $599 on Qantas were $1000+ on Amex. I got onto chat and asked and was told there has been a lot of complaints with pricing and that it had been 'raised with the Qantas Sales Manager'. Even a red-e deal Y fare was $13 more on Amex.

I'll just hang on to the credit and use it some other time.
