Changes to NetFlights

I just booked 20 days car hire USA with [email protected]

They were really good to deal with, called a 1800 number that went straight through to the UK, beat all other quotes by a few hundred dollars and they were highly recommended on this forum. Had to call a few times to amend the booking and seem to have all insurances covered except Road Side Assistance which we will do once we pick the car up at LAX.

Netflights now includes Road Side Assistance which will save a few dollars, also no need for phone calls which IMO is an inconvenience.

I would rather do all my shopping around online, and thankfully Netflights is back, and it seems to be running smoothly compared to a few bugs late last week.

(Just booked my car for Columbus, Ohio through them for next week, almost half the price of any other competitor, with all coverages included)

It seems I may have been a little hasty with my previous comments.

While I received a screen (printed) which indicated all was well with the booking, it actually seems to have gone into cyberspace. It cannot be retrieved from their website and my credit card has not been charged.

And Netflights are their usual uncommunicative selves, in that they don't respond to emails. No wonder Thomas Cook Travel is in difficulty.

So I hope you have double checked that your booking has actually been made and is in order.

I just tried to do a comparison booking to compare fares with Travel Jigsaw and honestly could not see much difference if at all, could not offer me a large range of SUV's so went for the Jeep Cherokee but did not include the GPS either in theiur costs..then the page disappeared anyway, I am glad I used Travel Jigsaw, dont think Netflights would have been much cheaper in the overall cost.

Booking is fine, had voucher, receipt and confirmation 24 hours later via e-mail.

Have used Netflights almost 10 times now this year in the U.S. and no issues at all.

On the other hand a friend used another company (locally booked) and they also had to pay for roadside assistance, for a 2 week rental it added another US$84 to the rental.

AAA will not assist you in a rental car, regardless if you are a member, the only exception to this is if the rental is an insurance funded replacement to your usual vehicle.

Keep that in mind as that changes the overall price by close to $100 for a 2 week rental.

Out of curiousity I looked up Car Rental - Book cheap car rental | rent a car with TravelJigsaw and enquired about the rate with the same details of an SUV I have booked out of LAX for Christmas day (3 day LAX local rental), for a Grand Cherokee (same with both wholesalers) the Jigsaw price came up as $265 (includes a tank of gas).

The exact same vehicle, dates and inclusions (including road side assist and prepaid gas) with Netflights came to AU$148 and that includes the GBP$17 pre-paid gas (platinum) fee (that is what I have already paid for and have vouchers issued for)

Having worked in the car rental industry for almost 10 years at both operations and management level I have seen some great deals, and some that leave a sour taste in your mouth afterwards. Personally I dont like booking something like a car without knowing who is the provider before hand, and little extra charges can build up over longer rentals so the original price isnt that good at the end of the day.

Had there have been several other members say Travel Jigsaw are great I would be a little more confident in what I am seeing, however there are a few companies that have been mentioned in this thread and others (not just Netflights) that have been given the thumbs up by other members here, and right now I would be happier using what is tried and tested.

Down the track if more people say they had good experiences with any other company I would certainly give them a quick look, after all, I want my dollar to go as far as it can.

(please dont take this as any form of personal attack, just erring on the side of caution here, thats all)

I agree with file51 here. Whilst Netflights was not available I booked via another site that did not show who the rental company was until afterwards. The car was from a 'less obvious' provider and had approx 150,000 km. By choice I would not do that again.

Gents..Are you saying that Travel Jigsaw are not good, the reason I booked with them were the recommendations I saw on here (somewhere) the car rental is with Alamo and a previously stated includes the GPS but not the road side assistance which will add another $5 per day for the 20 but they still came up fairly cheap in comparison with a direct booking with Alamo or National, at the time could not get onto Net Flights and when I could the range of vehicles seemed limited. and the web site fell over, anyway deposit paid now $150 but if you have any knowledge of bad experiences with this crowd please let me know, would rather lose the $150 than be let down when we arrive. They were really efficient on the phone though and sent receipt etc, full payment due February before our departure on March 3rd. Thanks

We are not saying they are not good, rather that they are an untested commodity within this community. I am a strong believer of recommendation based business. As I stated previously:

Down the track if more people say they had good experiences with any other company I would certainly give them a quick look, after all, I want my dollar to go as far as it can.

I have done numerous searches for feedback or comments on Travel Jigsaw and have come up empty handed.

Noreen,

As file51 states, we have used Netflights without issue and Travel Jigsaw is unreported around here. I hope it works because it gives us all more options.

I personally look forward to your post trip feedback.

I am not sure where you saw Travel Jigsaw being recommended in this forum, because I have not come across any.

It does not mean they are bad though.

I'm still having problems with Netflights. I got a personalised response (to my email complaining of non-delivery of voucher, etc) saying that they had sent it to me by separate email, but no such thing has arrived. And my credit card hasn't been charged either. So they are still having problems.

And BTW, I have rented from Netflights dozens of times, the last being earlier this month, in NYC and California, so I am familiar with how well it worked in the past. However, it seems their new booking system has been installed too soon, without proper testing and quality assurance.

Companies like Thos Cook should know better (I certainly do, having been an IT Manager for 30 years).

110% agree, I much prefer the older system, and it is obvious the newest incarnation of the site still has some bugs in it
