I would say that people should be free to post whatever opinions they like.. Everyone has one. That's my opinion

On topic, every other single instance of such things have always related to the year they were earned. I mean, for example, if you fly a flight on Dec 29, your membership year rolls over on Dec 31, but the flight posts on Jan 2nd, its points and SC's apply to the prior membership year. The LB is earned in the membership year so any bonus SC's earn should also, by logic, and common practice, apply to that year also.

Having written that, of course, it's up to QF how they wish to apply this specific bonus and if they want to be different that's totally fine.

Can you explain this statement further? How does one "select to have 50 SC applied to my new membership year"? Or are you suggesting that you simply made the selection of the LB post your new membership year starting, but within the 90 day window to make a choice?

Are you also suggesting that QFF confirmed that, selection having been made in your new membership year, that these SC's apply to this year, rather than last?

if so, that's great for you. I can see a number of issues with this approach, both positive and negative depending on one's perspective, but at the end of the day it's absolutely up to QF how they apply this.

I still think (yes, it's MY opinion ) that this behaviour is not how QFF would have intended the LB SC's to apply - if so I think they would have specifically stated it. It certainly provides some incentive to accrue a LB in the last month or two of one's membership year to get a (small) leg up for the next. If this is what QFF intended, you'd imagine they'd have advertised this as such.

The thing is only two loyalty bonuses can count to retaining or gaining status each year I think so moving the bonus forward to the next year only really helps if you intend to get a lot of your SCs that year not flying QF.

Each person's situation will be unique. Future travel, Loyalty Bonus accrual timing and personal choice, amongst other things, will dictate what is the best option (SCs or points).

If you have a LB option coming up close to the end of your membership year think about what will be best for you. Go into your account options and change the setting if required before the benefit is gained. As this is a new option you will be prompted to make the initial selection. If you are aiming for P1 leave it at points.

I clarified in my post on the previous page. Afterwards, there's been debate about the merits of how it worked.

My membership year ends in November. In November 2016, I obtained a loyalty bonus. In December 2016 (after the 15-16 year's SC had expired on 30 November (-500)), I selected SC and my balance went from 0 to 50. It remains there.

So I'm faced with an interesting situation. Do I applying the 50 SCs to my lifetime SCs?

I'm currently on 13,335 LT SCs after a year earning 1,625 SCs which put me back up to Platinum after 4 year absence.

However last year was unusual and the business projects I did are finished. I'm estimating that I might earn at best 300 SCs in the next 12 months and likely less again in the 12 months after that but I guess you never know.

Obviously I have WP status for 12 months and then a soft landing to SG after that. Logic says to take the 8,000 points as lounge access is locked in for 24 months but after 14 years to get this close to LTG I'm tempted to take the 50 SCs when my membership year resets 1 February to get a little closer. Will unlikely I've always been worried QF would change the goalposts just before I got there

To clarify, does this mean the SC's been applied to your (new) Membership "year" ending December 31st 2017?

This is not specifically stated in your post, only that you 'selected to have ...'.

By definition an opinion can not be incorrect, since it is a point of view, not a statement of fact. I had not once stated my view to be fact.

I'm glad the LB SC have credited into your new membership year. That's great. It also doesn't mean this will always be the case (as in, QF may change the behaviour observed at some point). The only way to know the actual fact is to get a statement from QF of the actual policy regarding this (if only old Red Roo was still with us to assist).

If you think you will earn another 665 SC in the next 24 months then I would agree the points are a better proposition.

If not, take the SCs and get to LTG ASAP. In the scheme of things 8000 points is relatively worthless.

Hi, sorry I couldn't find this answered earlier in the thread, probably because it's a dumb question.. I just completed a gold status challenge so don't know a lot about QFF

But does the 500SC that needs to be earned to get the 50SC bonus;

a) need to be earned in one membership year, as in, not after 200SC from 2016 and 300SC from 2017?
b) need to be earned on QF marketed and/or operated flights?

We just opted for the 50SCs today, and they have been counted towards his retaining status for the current membership year (ie ending 31 December 2017). He went from 140 to 190 SCs. Also increased his Lifetime status credits balance.

I've made the decision based on this to take the 50 SCs in next membership year (next month). While I'm currently WP I wont requalifying probably not even for SG other than by soft landing but I'm only 665 SCs from LTG and I'm impatient to get there.

So 50SCs on LTG plus having it in next year's total as it might help with not losing WP if I can somehow get close to the 1,200 SCs requalification mark.

It's taken 14 long years to get this close to LTG every little bit of help to get there is welcome. Come on QF where is a SC flight booking bonus?
