Changi Airport security gate check questions

Hi everyone,
I know that at Changi, security checks are conducted at each gate instead of a centralised location.
Since we can't bring in full water bottles, are there drinking fountains at each individual gate ?

And, i will be flying first class back to Melbourne from Changi this Friday.
Is the security check here conducted during check in or it's the same procedure as the rest of the airport ?

Yes there is water at the gate lounges.

Your second question is a bit ambiguous. There is no security at, or after check-in at Changi, until you reach the gate.

Not a security check. There may be a conveyor belt carry-on bag scanner just before outbound immigration (presumably for customs reasons), but it is not always used.

@desafinado74 There is no dedicated security for first class in T3, just the private check-in area, and a private entrance to immigration. You then exit right in front of the escalators to the lounge.

I also find the Changi process of queuing for security at the gate, then queuing for the gate agents to be a pain, but with the space confines of T1-T3, the design is such that the airside area has a much smaller footprint without the need to physically separate departing and arriving passengers, and duplicate shops etc.

Departing first class you’ll probably arrive at the tail end of boarding, so pretty much straight through the security screening and straight on board. There may be a couple of people in front of you at security, but this rarely takes more than a minute or two.

TBH I haven’t sat at a seat in the holding gate at SIN for as long as I can remember, so access to water etc not much of an issue.

Our gate last time we flew F had an F security queue as well. Although that may have been because it was B3 IIRC, and the security point is for 3 gates

Noticed that boarding gate layout has changed for recent EK flight SIN-BNE. The airline desk is gone straight after security and now there are 3/4 lanes closer to aerobridge with airline staff but you scan your own boarding pass to walk through and board.

Interesting. Just flew SQ SIN>BNE on the 18th and they still have the agent desk right after security.

No this is just random security checks done as an extra security kind of thing. They pick people at random who are coming through and they seem to be slightly profiling for this extra check.

Some flights also have inbound security where the whole flight is screened upon arrival if coming from some South East Asian destinations or other "higher risk places". This screening takes place before you are allowed to proceed into the terminal or to immigration.

There should be water fountains at most gates.

I'm sure someone will be able to correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is that every gate has access to water fountains but not all gates have toilets.

Correct, not exactly sure which gates have toilets but there was an instance where I was flying to MEL and the gates had toilets outside of the waiting area.

Experienced this coming back , DPS-SIN. First time I ever experienced it at Changi, but just assumed it was for countries with high risk for drugs or criminal activity. Maybe it's for something totally unrelated?

Can be as simple as countries where there might be a risk of overstay (entering as a tourist but wanting to stay/work).

It also happens for origin airports with lesser security standards, such as Penang.

If that is the case that may be one of the least logical and least effective things ever done in SIN (at least based on the setup in T1).

While mildly annoying, arrival screening hasn't been painful in my experience. However if you're towards the back of a widebody rather than near the front of a narrowbody then it could be very frustrating.

From memory it was T1 and gate C20.

I'm back through SIN in 2 weeks and will be sure to check if other gates have the same setup.
