Changi Matters

I'd advise against waiting in a queue for something you're clearly not entitled to, which is worth, what, SGD80 at most, and just enjoying the Changi experience.
And I would suggest that ALL pax choose to do what they want to do in relation to pursuing their entitlement to the Changi vouchers. At 05:30 on Sat Mar 25 I walked straight to counter - no queue. At 20:50 on Sat Apr 1 I walked straight to counter - no queue. At other times the queue has been extensive - luck of the draw.

We've already established that robtemt is perfectly capable of thinking for himself, I didn't see a need to belabor the point.

A further headwind given the EK part of the itinerary:

Passengers must be travelling on flights operated by Singapore Airlines or SilkAir, both into and out of Singapore. Any connecting flight into or out of Singapore that is not operated by Singapore Airlines or SilkAir must be operated by Air New Zealand, specifically flight numbers SQ4281, SQ4282, NZ281 or NZ282 or Scoot, specifically flight numbers TZ591 or TZ592.

100% agree robtemt may or may not be eligible - hence I suggest all pax confirm their eligibility in person and not accept advice from here which may or may not be correct.

@ robtemt - do you intend to check your eligibility on arrival into Changi? (Assuming queue is not 100mts long that is)

Now Now, be nice gentlemen!

I appreciate the advice both of you have given. You never know if I'm capable of making the decision of standing in line or not without guru input. ;)

I'll wing it (no pun intended). I'll check out the queue, and depends on the length, how tired I am, and how much Krug I had on the flight. :) I'll try to remember to post my success or failure to obtain the vouchers.

Similar experience at 05:45 recently.

Difference in pricing is that the rate card in the photo includes a set meal. 'Room only' is available cheaper as per Serfty's post.
I forgot about the meal - I had no need anti up for one as I had lounge access where breakfast was available after my Midnight-6am booking.

I read somewhere on AFF a while ago there is a food court in the basement which is now for the workers at the airport but is also open to the public that is supposed to have good local food?
This is probably the easiest to follow directions i have seen for finding the food courts, its well worth a trip if you dont have lounge access or are bored. Singapore airport's secret staff canteens - CNN.com

Re SIN ST airside hotels I always call in advance and book over phone and then get them to email me reservation. Just an old fuddy duddy I guess but I prefer to talk to human re these bookings so I have never booked online and never questioned price when I booked.

There was one instance when I was told T# fully booked so I said ok I will take T2 - on arrival at T2 I was told there would be lot of noise during night due to renos so sleep may be disturbed - great for ST hotel in airport huh? When I expressed my dissatisfaction they called T# and arranged room there for me - go figure.

I was transiting SIN on Sat Apr 1 and called Crowne Plaza day before to check availability of day rate but they were fully booked and no day rate rooms available.

Many AFFers transiting SIN on return to Oz will be aware of the min 90min pre dep lead time to purchase DF which can be APITA with tight connections. I regularly fly 807 ex PEK with 55min connection to 237 - clearly not possible to purchase DF with that connection time.

BUT

With tight connections you can overcome this by using iShopChangi - you can buy DF online from 18hrs pre dep to 21 days pre dep and collect in SIN during your tight transit. I just snagged 2 x 1ltr Baileys @ S$23.31ea. Hope this helps others.

Stayed in the transit hotel last Thurs morn for 7hrs (booked into T3 but was full so they got us into T2), was the best SGD130 spent on our entire trip. Hot shower and comfy bed for 6hrs sleep after 12hrs of SQ345 :D:D

Edit:interesting that we got bumped to T2 even when we booked 72hrs in advance online...

CE, wife was very happy that she snagged a litre of Bombay Sapphire East for SGD34 - was over AUD40 when we walked through the DF in SYD.

(only wish that they had found my Bose QC15's that I lost when going through there 4wks before)

Good to know - saves the SMS dilemma!

+1 to the Transit Hotel, I also use it quite often. The last time I was there, I was allocated a room overlooking an apron, with an SQ A380 parked in front of my window all night

I've found that you can get a cheaper rate by booking it through Expedia (etc) and using a coupon ;) At first I didn't realise that Expedia even had a listing for it!
