SINGAPORE - Changi Airport will spend close to $1.3 billion to build a new passenger terminal as well as supporting infrastructure and systems like roads and aircraft parking bays.
In planning the development of Terminal 4, the focus is not just capacity expansion but ensuring that the new facility is well integrated with the other terminals, said Changi Airport Group, which shared its plans last Friday.
Unlike the other three terminals that are physically linked, the site for the future T4, where the Budget Terminal was located, is 2km from the main airport building. To make it convenient for T4 travellers with connecting flights, airside buses will be available.

Buses don't make anything more convenient...

I don't think ultra convenience is a priority for T4 which IIRC is intended to be effectively an upgraded LCCT for the likes of Tiger, Cebu Pacific, etc

Existing bus from T3 to BT a nightmare IMHO - gave them up yonks ago - now just jump in a cab and stick SD20 in taxi driver hand and tell him leave meter off - in BT in like 3 mins.

That's roughly the same price as going to the city. Besides, they'll simply pick up another fare from the budget terminal, and they already get a few dollars extra from doing the pickup at the airport, so what you are doing seem to me to be incredibly silly.

Anyway, as mentioned, T4 is basically an upgraded budget terminal, so connectivity certainly isn't the priority.

YES YES YES I know all that - except for the part about 'incredibly silly' - we are all big boys - we can all make decisions - hell even some of your decisions I might find questionable.

I value my time and convenience very highly - a $20 spend that saves me up to 30mins and the effort of dragging 2 or 3 big bags from T3 to T2 to down to bus stop to get on bus to drag them off bus at BT - silly? Quite the opposite - sensible in my mind - but then we are all different aren't we?

I think the significant thing was that they will now have airside buses, while before it was only landside buses to the budget terminal. So with the new terminal passengers will be able to transfer to the other terminals without having to clear customs and immigration. Which is at least more convenient than the previous situation.

You would get exactly the same result using the meter paying $10. Besides, Singapore is a culture where you generally do not tip - if anything, taxi drivers generally round down to the last 10 cents in the fare. While you are welcome to continue with what you are doing, there's no need to throw that kind of money out. The drivers can also lose their jobs if they get reported for accepting this type of offers, but they're rarely (if ever) caught.

Actually had 2 refusals to take me from T3 to BP - that is why the 'do not turn on meter' approach - but thanks for your input.

I'm actually quite surprised to hear that. I live very close to the airport, where the normal fare would be about $12, and had never been refused. Anyway, it's illegal for them to do so, so if it happens in the future, you do have the choice of recording the rego to take the matter further with the taxi company and/or the relevant government authorities - and they do take these matters seriously. But either way, if you want to continue on your practice, perhaps try offering $15 next time instead. :)

it's amazing how much traffic a casino can generate:shock:

And a cough one at that too.

Stayed at MBS late last year and walked into the casino, it smelt like a giant ash tray, walked right back out again.

Downstairs allow smoking, but the upstairs part does not, and doesn't smell like an ashtray. Still cough though. I don't go to it myself even though I live pretty much down the road from it.

How did you find MBS?

Tossed up staying here for our Easter break.......decided to go with FBH instead.

Succinctly S.O.P. for anything 'untoward" in Singapore..

I read an article about T5 on Australian Business Traveller recently:
Singapore's Changi Airport to get new T5 'mega-terminal' - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

I searched for it on AFF but didn't find anything so I thought I'll post it here instead. We'll find out more details at the end of the year but wonder if T5 in SIN will be like its namesake in LHR?

I'm sure it shall be collectively constructed in a well desired timely & furnished manner - hopefully sans the psychedelic carpet.

These guys are pretty good dreamers... they haven't even finished building T4 yet (although it's really just a replacement budget terminal with an aligned name). As for the carpet... unfortunately, I think you are asking for too much. :)

The article also mentioned alliance based terminals, but I really don't think that can happen. I can't imagine QF and BA willingly share one terminal. :D

Unrelated to this topic, but I noticed you mentioned you live near the airport and also "down the road" from MBS (which I initially thought didn't quite make sense)? I'm quite familiar with Singapore as I've lived there before, and now I think I know what you mean - literally...
