We're planning to go to NYC in mid-October and back again mid-November. I just looked at JASAs MEL-LAX and there is a reasonably priced option near our planned departure date but the nearest reasonably priced return date is about two weeks later than we want.

If I were to book this JASA now, and keeping in mind I only have points for one so we need to pay for fares CBR-MEL and LAX-NYC for both of us, plus one MEL-LAX fare, can the flights be changed at a later date? Is there a penalty? Does the points cost increase to what is showing for that date currently?

Anything else I should consider?

Thanks!

Check the fares rules, simply by completing a booking right up until the payment page. It will list the conditions for name changes, date changes, cancellations etc. And when you're ready to book completely, make sure to take screenshot of the conditions.

The existing JASA threads have similar information.

Short answer is yes but subject to the fare rule (J). See QFF terms and conditions section 15.5

Things to consider: book JASA direct via QF website to avoid additional fees.

The fare rules can overide 15.5

For international JASA's fare rules can vary widely, mainly depending on country of origin.

They tend to be consistent for domestic, but always check in any case.
