Long layovers are prolly fine for a once-off trip - great wall one way, and Beijing sightseeing the other. Dunno if I would want to do the trip multiple times.

That link is for CI with a 1 hour layover in TPE.
The CA fares are also return but mind you I’d rather pay double and take CI

I'd say the difference between the two is not so big. Perhaps a slight edge to CI, but CA flies 747-8s. Beautiful planes. And the A330 beds on CA are one of the best for sleeping.

OK - this works INCREDIBLY well for me! I will likely book - I am Platinum with Virgin Australia - can anyone advise best program to allocate this trip to? Would love status with another carrier now I'm based in EU!

I’ve only flown on their A330’s and yes the beds were fantastic but the food and service was quite terrible both times and I found my IFE quite glitchy aswell. From my experience I rate them the lowest of the Chinese carriers but sounds like I should give them another go.

For sure - and if I was paying $7500 to Europe I'd probably want more. But this is $2200 return... I'd be happy with an economy meal on a single tray

The one thing about Chinese carriers though is that the crew are generally pretty good. They have limited soft product to work with, but they're usually pretty friendly, and attentive, by Chinese standards )

Personally i would boycott all Mainland airlines for politcal reasons (HK, Xinjiang etc) But it's just me.

Look at Turkish or Asiana. Both have low thresholds to earn and keep gold status. Turkish has “quirky” customer service but their online systems are getting better.

I’ve flown this CA route several times. The long stop overs do drag on but Beijing is a great city to visit for a few hours.

the J beds are great for sleeping, FA’s try really hard but your champagne will probably be served warm.

if using your own money this is a great value way to fly.

if based in Scandinavia check out SQ.I often buy return J to Sydney starting in Stockholm for $3400 return.

Pretty sure you need to book via Air China, and maybe even on the country specific site for air china

I hae tried march, April, May next year
