Simply any opportunity to increase the margin will be taken...a great example!Maybe one day the local DF operators will wake up when the AU traveling public get smart and realise that the DF offer here is out of line with many other ports in the region and they vote with their feet!
Maybe we should start our own version of the Economist's Big Mac index and call it the JW Black index and publish the price of a 1 litre bottle of JW black from DF stores around the globe?

I have thought about this before. A public internet forum where people can put prices for whatever products they like (booze, electronics, smellies etc.), all sorted by airport. Sadly, I don't have the tech ability to do it.
Very true. So this is the airport owners charging very high rents based on the retailer's ability to make large profits. And the conspiricy goes further with the government retaining unjustified liquids searches at foreign airports (e.g. HKG, BKK etc) preventing passengers buying at overseas ports and increasing the probability that people will purchase on arrival into Australia.

I don't work in IT, but back in high school, I never received anything lower than an A+ grade for my PHP/MySQL (dynamic website) projects, which included designing the entire thing from scratch every time... If this is something that people here would be *seriously* interested in (and would actually use more than once), I would consider creating a site to do something like this - either with all my own code, or by modifying a freely available piece of software to do the same job... I did the similar thing from the suggestion of another user in the AMEX forum - I created AMEX Merchant Wiki, which basically consolidates all of the acceptance information we have available down into master lists for various merchant categories and locations, and has received over 2000 hits in the last couple of months (many from American Express themselves too 
)... so if a Duty Free price comparison tool is something that a decent number of you want, let your voices be heard and I will consider making one (... although not until at least September due to my current work load)
