Again, I happened to stumble upon this. Flights to Malaysia from $675 return for travel up to Nov 30 (I think). Here's another tip: SYD-KUL return on their website is $675 but if you book the same flights on their mobile site, it comes down to $655! These are excellent fares, esp now that those .br fares have gone.

Probably trying to compete with the Air Asia specials at $400 return. With KLIA2 open in May, the gap is narrowing in terms of product. Scoot are at similar pricing to AirAsia as well.

The fact that they are the most unpopular airline in the world right now might have something to do with the low pricing too.

Yes, a plane that has disappeared with no rational explanation as to what happened does dampen enthusiasm for a particular plane type and airline...

great fares. Not unusually low either because I have seen similar fares previously also. I would fly MH again without any concerns!

Considering the safety record of MH and the 777, I consider such a stance to be illogical.

Perhaps in certain markets maybe. Quite subjective yes I agree but are they the most unpopular airline in the market currently?

Well, the negative press doesn't bother me at all and I'll happily take advantage of the low pricing. I managed to get a multi-city itinerary in August(KUL, PEN, KCH) for about $800! That's hard to beat.

Do these fares earn SC on QFF? If yes how much would a MEL-KUL-MEL earn?

Whether you think it is illogical is moot. MH and the 777 have had substantial negative press in the last couple of weeks and this will have flowed into the concious minds of many.

Not really. To be fair most of the bad press has been around MH, not the 777 as such.

I believe they do! Fares in the MHbasic category ticketed in L and V definitely do but the points earns is pretty sad. Your SC earn on MEL-KUL-KUL will be the same for MEL-SIN-MEL on QF, so that comes to 60 in total.

Oooh...and MEL-KUL-MEL is even cheaper than SYD-KUL-SYD. Their website is quoting about $655, so booking via their mobile site might be even cheaper!

But N class does not earn, which is whats being used for the cheap fares such as your $655 ex MEL.

$654 versus $435 is hardly $100 or so, and less if no bags ($384). Not a big fan of Air Asia but at those difference for a day flight its hard to ignore, especially as KLIA2 will be in operation in May. If your a frequent traveller to KL then your better off nesting QF in, ex SIN its under $600 return for full disc economy points earn and SCs.

You are right - some reason I read it as 564. Point still stands as to the extra seat in the row though.

Oh, I didn't know that N class was part of the MHbasic fare category.
Anyway, for $200 more, I can get fed and hydrated as well as use lounges. To me, that is worth the extra cost.

It is approx $100 each way for a better seat, alcohol included, meals included, entertainment included and lounge access where available (including F class lounge in MEL or SYD and F class lounge in KUL) - I think that is most definitely worth the extra money.

Some would suggest that the main thing that differentiates us from other animals is rational thought (not all agree). It may be moot to you but I'm quite keen to be seen as a rational, intelligent human and hence will be ignoring sensationalist press and the opinions of those who are easily lead by the same.
