Cheaper London-Heathrow fares crossrail

Once they link up the various sections, it will be a big winner. Our London family are on the overground that runs down towards West Croydon. Being able to get to/from LHR with one change at Whitechapel (where there are lifts and escalators and moving walkways) is a great improvement to now. Normally its HEX or overground to Paddington, tube to Whitchapel and change again, or Tube from the airport to Green Park, change for Canada Water and then change again. Anything that involves the tube and suitcases is generally a nightmare.

Yep. Still a bit of a pain until it fully opens with some lengthy transfers initially at Paddington when it opens. Depending on destination swapping to the Central line at Ealing Broadway might be better.

It will be a very cheap way to Heathrow Airport if you arrive in the morning, or depart in the evening, and make some other journeys during the day, due to the daily Oyster cap including airport surcharge.

Will the £7.20 “Heathrow premium” be included in the cap, or will it always be additional to that?

Included in the £14.10 daily cap (Zones 1-6) as I understand.

So different to Sydney where it's excluded from the caps (though has a separate Weekly cap for airport workers)

If you use a credit card to pay, do you still get the daily cap of £14.10?

In my experience, yes.

The daily usage of each CC is tallied overnight and the fare assessed. You only get the one debit against the credit card per day, no matter how many times you Tap.

So exciting that Melbourne might have this level of efficiency (both the train connections to the airport and the ability to pay with a CC) ...... by 2030 🙄.
