Is the Sydney Bus 400 the cheapest way from Airport to CBD?
Time taken?

Can someone give a link or the detailed route/description from Sydney airport to CBD and return.

Regards

i took the 400 bus to campsie and trained back to st peters to save $10 and spent 1.5 hours. What the hell was i thinking.

At that time of day there is no point in trying to save money, it will just take you a long, long time. Bite the bullet and pay a few $'s ($12.60 I think) and you'll be in the CBD in less than half an hour*.

*except in cases of a City Rail farce!

Mascot railway station is a twenty minute walk from T2/T3. From there it's less than fifteen minutes into the city. $7.20 return to Wynyard, versus $31.80 return from the domestic airport station.

I walk from Mascot to T2 on the odd occasion that I have a bit of extra time to catch an evening flight when the weather is good.

The train actually cost $15.90 now. There are a few options to save on that cost that all involve Mascot station.

1) get the 400 heading towards randwick and get off at Mascot station, $2. Then take the train for about $4.
2) walk to Mascot, get train.
3) get the train to Mascot -$7.40, get off. Buy a new ticket to the city - $4.

But for an AGM I assume its a day trip, so you should be able to use return tickets - valid for the day.

Still as an AGM your travel is a tax deduction. So you're saving a fair bit once you taw tax into account.

From T1, it's a 20 minute walk across the bridge and up past the Mercure to another station (Woolli Creek ) where the onerous airport costs can be mitigated.

Appreciate all the info.
So Walk out of terminal turn google maps onto Mascot train station and walk to it?
Then get a return\day ticket from there to CBD(whats the station in CBD?)
Train trip into City station takes how long?
Location: Four Seasons Hotel, 199 George St, Sydney

Have you seen the share price....hence the cheapest option......took a hit :/

I'd suggest that if the issue is between $7 and $15 each way, you may have problems beyond the share price. How much is your time worth? All the above options are cheap but a huge waste of time IMO.

Here you go - Google estimates 19 minutes from Mascot to the Four Seasons, including the walk from Circular Quay station to the hotel.
Mascot Station to Four Seasons Hotel - Google Maps

The longest part of the walk from the airport to Mascot will be waiting to cross Joyce Drive.

If you want to look at it in terms of cost of time, you're spending 35 minutes to save $24.60 (because the train will take 2-3 minutes to travel from Mascot to the airport anyway). So as long as your time is worth less than $42/hr you're ahead.

Turn google maps on, on your computer before you get to Sydney and check out the route in advanced.

"City" is the train station and that allows you to use any station on the city circle, (central, Mueseum, st James, circular quay, wynyard or town hall) and Kings cross. I don't really know where you location is but town hall and wynyard are closest to George st. Maybe circular quay, depending.

Again, I really don't see why you want to save money given the inconvenience, time cost.

Depending on time available I like Medhead's option 3 for cost vv time. Can be rainy in SYD too.

Mascot to the city is $3.60 one way, not $7. The saving is $13.30 each way. Enough to pay for lunch.

Sure my time isn't worth the 15 minutes for the walk. But I do the walk if I have the time for exercise and to save that money from coming out of my pocket.

To the OP don't forget the 400 bus will also take you to Mascot.

The Cityrail fare calculator reports that a single from Domestic Airport to Mascot is $15.90. So I'm not sure this is valid advice.

I will tell you right now that the city rail fare calculator is wrong. I have purchased that ticket once at the quoted price of $7.40. That was also the price displayed to me yesterday. Perhaps you might like to go and check the price for yourself before claiming my information is wrong.

medhead is 100% right.

I have a periodical train ticket which includes the stations around the airport. When arriving inbound I purchase the $7.40 ticket to Mascot, and then continue on my journey from there.

(this assumes that I haven't already purchased the $20 weekly gate pass on my outbound journey).

Thanks for the data points medhead and Ewing. As it happens I'll be at Mascot station this evening so I might ask at the ticket window what a fare to the airport will cost. I tried to buy a standalone Mascot-Domestic ticket from St James once to use with my MyMulti, and they wanted $15. I purchased a gate pass upon arrival instead.

Bus from Domestic to Mascot train staion is $2.20 one way, and from International is $3.60 one way. This thread of mine may be of some interest:

I was waiting for someone to link that thread.

You don't even have to ask. Just push a button on the ticket machine. I had the impression that a station can only sell a ticket to/from that station. At least that's what I was told once. Are you sure that wasn't the price from St James?

If you have a valid train ticket (My Multi?) that includes airport stations and those nearby, you could buy a terminal transfer ticket.
