No they don't have a clue.....it a AFF way that you do it on the cheap.

If the original question was clearer, you might have got the answer you needed....

Re: Getting from Sydney airport via walk/train cheap info link on here?

I think you meant catching a 400 bus to Mascot and then catching the train to avoid the surcharge

Right it's now happening the 14th October in the evening.....So just to confirm I'm walking to Mascot(small backpack) and catching the train into CBD......Central Station...how much it going to hit me?
I plan on staying the night and coming back late the next day...is there a cut off time for this train back to Mascot?
Do they have a CARD\Ticket I need to get as may do it two more times in the month or just get a 1 way?

So it's going to cost $3.60 :Fare Calculator - Sydney Trains
Is an Off peak return last only 24hrs?

Research the link in (now after merge) post #42.

Off peak return means that the return ticket was sold after 9am from the origin station. That ticket is valid until 4am the next day. So if you bought the ticket today (Friday), it would be valid to commence the return journey up to 4am Saturday.

There's no smartcard yet that will cover you for that journey. There are weekly tickets but it sounds like you won't be travelling often enough to make it worth it.

Thankyou for the updated info

Have a 9pm flight home.....what time to leave CBD to get the flight 7pm?

If you want to be at the airport at 7pm, the latest you'll want to be leaving Central is 6.45pm.

Unless one plans on walking from Mascot station to Domestic - in which case, allow at least another 20 minutes.

I was working on the assumption of going directly to the airport station.

It comes down to how much value a person puts on their time.

Why fly in for the AGM?
I assume it would be live streamed.

If the weather is anything like it was today, you will realise that will be $30 well spent!

But I do agree with the general consensus that airport link is excessively priced. It is generally cheaper for me to get a cab from home in Alexandria than get the train.

I'm now flying in on the 14th bunking it in Central, getting up attending AGM(free feed) then on walk about until I leave that night.....I have the day off and have lost money on this stock so need to tell the board, in person, to bloody pick up their game ;)

Got a weather forecast for the 14th/15th please?

Yeah googled...perfect 23\25 degrees.....

Well just thought I would add my assessment of the trip/WALK!

Got off plane walked from gate ? straight for 200m metres and and exited the building as per google maps closest to hire car area.
Spoke to Welcome to Sydney people(yellow jackets) at bottom of escalator.
Prompted to walk through HIRE CARE car park to the footpath to begin the trek.
Perfect weather
CAR FUMES FUMES FUMES
Followed the path and google maps
Crossed the road once when unable to walk along car park structure to right side. There is multple(3-4) J walking opportunities later in walk....wait at lights allow you to check txt\twitter\email.
Flat walk.
Took maybe 20 minutes as checking google maps against others walking around me.
Hit the train station spoke to very nice looking young girl in ticket office and got my $3.60 ticket...off peak starts at 9pm I think....this is like New York as $3.60 is for one stop or 5 stops into city.
Tip1: Told at the train station that if you want to use the ticket a second time that night you can say you "forgot to go to toilet....really need to go" to the person at the gate and they MAY let you through(toilets only located inside barriers)...then you catch your NEXT train as you exit the machine will swallow ticket, but let you exit....did not try it but extra ride for free.
Tip2: there is a Noodle festival in Hyde park in CBD that if you go at 2030hrs they sell the food 1/2 price to shut up shop Yum Yum!

Now going back the next day I noted google map had 3 options and said from 50 to 1 hr walk.
I did it, not having to check google maps, in 10 minutes at a comfortable pace and did not notice the fumes as much.

Trying to find Virgin checking at the end was the hardest part(ended up using lift then walking past jest star)

Another thing is I thought walking up George St to a station closer to CENTRAL would result in shorter trip to mascot but the train goes the other way and results in a view of the harbour ;)

I did this walk on Monday arriving from CBR and back the next day after the Telstra AGM.

Add to the fumes BIG NOISY ROAD TRAINS!

When I first read the last sentence in the extract above, I thought you meant there were Business class walking opportunities...

So was it worth the walk or next time would you spend the extra coin & catch the train from the airport station?

Why didn't you get a return ticket if it was a day trip?

The tickets are not like New York, the price is just via zones. But if you buy a ticket airport to central (not city) and go beyond central that ticket isn't valid. Even if Airport to central and city are priced the same.

Tip1 doesn't really make sense. Toilets at town hall, central and circular quay stations are outside the barrier for a start. Museum station toilets are inside and I don't know the other stations that well. Sounds like you're scamming your way back onto the platform. In which case, you stand to be caught by transport police if you travel without a valid ticket. Then there is the question of how you got outside the barrier without having your ticket captured.

I don't notice any fumes but ymmv clearly. I have never seen a road train on that road. Maybe a B double but not a road train.
