Cheapest way from Sydney airport to CBD and return in a day?

So was it worth the walk or next time would you spend the extra coin & catch the train from the airport station?
If you can make the time it is worth it - IMHO - there's a principle involved.

Same as I would walk to the Mercure near international rather than take the shuttle bus.

Of course, being a HLO sort of guy it's a bit easier than if you had to drag luggage around.

Of course if you have a Govt senior's card (not Australian Seniors), you can get an all day Pensioner Excursion Ticket for about $17-50 from domestic or $2-50 from Mascot; get on and off as often as you wish. (Can't remember whether there are time restrictions on the purchase, such as after 9AM.) JV

Medhead:
1. I was overnight as stated in last post.
2. Zones maybe corrected but the green line is all $3.60 as I left to go to Airport from Town Hall and still $3.60
3.This is what I was told from booth operator. I came out the first time after using the gate nearest the train person at the gate. The Booth operator was surprised it did not take my ticket?

It was such an easy walk I would probably do it rain hail or shine with luggage!
Lot bloody easier than from Chicago train station to Super 8 motel near Ohare Airport!

Right I'm going up again...shout out to anyone doing the walk Monday night post flight in....probably around 1700-1800hrs another AGM to attend ;)
Cheapest Manly ferry ticket return is $11.50 something right?

Plant wouldn't it be easier to buy shares that go up so the bus/ train fares are covering your ride?
It might be hot and although it is healthy to walk you should do that on cool days.

Hey Cove ORIGIN...paid $10 over $14 now these puppies have gone up ;)....hopefully the free feed will reflect it ;)
The coin saved on trains and buses go towards more shares, ferry trips and of course more flights.
On a side note I'm currently trying to ram in down the throat of any Citibank employee I speak too that I want Signature card Free for life.....had to hang up on their rambling.

EDIT: Got a recommendation on a place to eat in Sydney Cove??

We use the Intercontinental smorgasbord with the Priority Privilege card to get a free meal if there are two dining.

Time to fly over to Sydney Cove we got stuff to discuss in person over an Intercontinental smorgasbord ;)
So can you show your card and I pay on the Smartsalary card the bill? ha ha ha ha

For anyone who hasn't yet walked from SYD to Mascot, I have attached a quick guide. I realise that it's not for everyone but I personally think it's a great way to save a bit of money and get some exercise!

Mattg the attached picture did not come thru. Or is it me?

It sure is close to Qantas admin in Coward Street so that one is easy walk if you are over there.

Last month we were flying from T1.
We caught the train from Circular Quay to Mascot and while in the lift at Mascot Station I asked another couple with suitcases if they were also catching the bus to the airport.
Yes, but they were crossing the road and catching the QF Staff bus - would we like to pretend we were their parents () and go with them?
Of course we would, thank you very much!
We arrived at the same time as the public bus but had more $$$ in our pockets!

Great work Mattg!

For the 400 bus, I just want to add:

  • At T3, make sure the bus direction is Bondi Junction because the Burwood direction 400 bus uses the same stop.
  • The bus turns right from Bourke Rd. into Coward St. I usually push the bell just after the bus turns into Bourke Rd, alight opposite the Holiday Inn then walk the remaining 200m or so to the station.

Given the efforts you are going to, to save a few $ and to get a "free feed" (from an AGM)... why are you bothering going at all?

Nice guide.
The only comment I would make is that the 400 does not actually stop outside Mascot station.
The stop is on Bourke Road between Coward St and O'Riordan (ie directly outside the main Qantas offices), from there it is under 100m walk to Mascot station.

If going to/from International, taking the bus to Banksia or Rockdale (better frequency trains) drops you right outside the station.

Like I keep saying, it depends on what value you put on your time. By the time you catch the bus from T1 to the Illawarra line, you could already be in the city especially if the traffic is bad.
