This raises the question :
If Gold is worth $300 (plus convenience benefits) - what is Platinum worth ?
1st Class Lounges, priority seating, luggage and general handling. Not to mention status bonus points.

In my view, the big increment is from Silver to Gold as it includes OneWorld lounge access. The difference between F and J lounges and check-in is nice but not worth a great deal in $ terms. The extra 50% points can also be worthwhile.

You still have this weekend and next Saturday 31 May. Gold status has got to be worth at least $300. No need to make a weekend of it. If it was me I would be flying up to BNE and back same day. In fact last year I did a SYD-CBR-MEL-SYD same day middle of May as I was going to be 30 SCs short of Platinum.

Unfortunately I have my old mans Bday on Sat night. So I would have to leav sat morning and be back by 3ish. or do 30 SC on Sunday but again.... I find it hard to justify the $330 (minimum) airfare when QC membership is under $200 for me on corp rates.

And the QC membership may be tax deductible, while a Mileage Run for personal purposes has no tax advantage for you.

It is very hard to put a dollar figure on what Platinum status is worth. I really cannot afford to travel in business class on long haul flights so I need as much help as possible in securing exit rows, priority checkin and the 100% status bonus is handy as well. Yes First Class lounges are nice but I wouldn't go all out just for this benefit unless I was really close to Platinum status.

My goal for the next membership year will be to again rettain Platinum status for as little outlay as possible but some of the flights along the way will be purely SC runs or even FF mileage runs. As long as I keep within the budget I have in mind then that is basically the value I place on Platinum status....

I would personally do a SC run if l was just short of the next level (apart from Silver, which l am at the moment.)
I am in the process of getting QP Corprate. But, l do have an OS flight in December with Cathy/FinnAir and l won't be able to get into their lounges because you need OW status to get in. Guess everyone has their reasons.
I still need another 520SC by November 30th to get Gold. Don't think that l have a chance of getting close to that as work is flying with National Jet (in WA) and even though some of the flights can get points & SC's, the ones l am going on don't. Which kinda sucks because l would have been Platinum if they counted. Flying average of at leave once a week with them. Oh well.....
