I booked some accomodation through Qantas travel and received my passes in the mail very quickly - less than 10 days , however I still haven't received the bonus points for making the purchase or the bonus points for my first spend on the card .... maybe they will come through next month :!:

thanks - it's great to know that accommodation is included as a legitimate Qantas spend....

Was that online through Ready Rooms?

I am still chasing my passes having made the spend in Dec 2006

No, not Ready Rooms, I made my booking directly with Qantas on the phone.

Hi guys,

Speaking of these QC passes (from Qantas Ultimate card spend)....

I have two that are going to expire end of September 2007.

I have a familt trip in January 2008.

Is there anybody out there willing to SWAP passes with me.

(my two for your two that expire after Jan 08)

regards,

Gordon,

Haven't seen you around for quite a while :!:

If I had passes I'd swap, however unfortunately I don't.

Thanks for remembering me Bill....

Yeah, I don't check out this site much these days.

I was in the Sydney Int. lounge recently, and one of the nice ladies said I could bring in my 'near expired' passes, and she would 'swap' them for me, from passes recently surrendered by passengers. (She even gave me one that will be good for my Jan. 08 trip!)

regards,

Excellent. :D

It's good to get a little good feedback about QF occasionally.

Another way to get a "cheap" spend with Qantas for anyone else looking for the extra points on this card - if you are flying somewhere anyway, book it on points and pay for the taxes on the credit card - will cost you under $40 in taxes for a MEL-SYD flight on points and you'll get your bonus.

If you dont want to book a flight you can also buy something from the Qantas shop, a hat, keyring, model plane ect..

This also counts towards the extra points and obtaining the passes as far as i know.

Are you sure about that ? I've had a look at the T&C and I think it mentions somewhere that the Qantas shop items such as a hat or keyring, don't qualify. Has anyone else tried this and actually received the points, and or passes ? I have the ultimate card, which gives you a free flight for Qantas purchases, but I'm pretty sure that a hat or a keyring won't count.
Cheers.

I have the ultimate card, which gives you a free flight on certain purchases. Do you know if this would qualify ?

I spent $20 on a 500 point top up. This was considered a Qantas spend by Amex, and I received the 2500 bonus points.

I'll wait to see if I get the QC invites.

Fine print says:

Selected Qantas products and services are: (a) Qantas passenger flights (with a QF flight number) purchased on the Qantas merchant account i.e. directly with Qantas or some travel agents, (b) purchases from Qantas Travel shops or (c) purchases from Qantas Holidays. Excludes: Qantas Freight, Jetstar and Qantas branded non-airfare products operated by third parties e.g. Qantas Box Office.

I advised a colleugue of this option a while back as she was desperate for some QC passes as she was going overseas, but was not going to pay for any QF flights within the 12 months.

She followed my suggestion and got both the points and the passes.

ie Effectively for $20 she gained 500+2500 points plus 2 passes.

I have an idea for the cheapest ever spend for a qantas service.

Carbon offset a flight that you've made from Mel-Syd and it will cost you $1.20

I'm about to try it and see if it works for my new Ultimate card on the upgrade from platinum offer to get 40,000 points ... will let you know how it goes!

I had exactly the same idea and am going to try it now as well.

Cheers!

Someone on here or FT already tried. It's a qantas transaction, but it appears under a different merchant name, so won't count. Don't have the link to the thread though.

Bugger...ok back to the qantas shop for me then!

Unfortunately I've got all my travel booked for the next 6 months in advance so can't book a flight!

The Frequent Flyer points "top-up" worked for me - $20 for 500 points and it counted as a Qantas spend, although it did take over a week for it to appear on my Amex statement.

Just be aware that you can only "top-up" once per year, so if you're expecting that you might need to do it for real at some stage in the next year you might be better to hold off...
