Check in: BNE-SYD, overnight, then SYD-JNB

Have flights BNE / SYD overnight in Sydney then SYD / JNB the next day all on one ticket. When I online checkin for the BNE / SYD flight can I also check in for the SYD / JNB flight. Thanks for your help. Long time since I last did this.

If it's built as a connection on the one ticket, which it sounds like it is, and the SYD-JNB is within the usual 12 hours (and QF63 is a morning departure) then the check in process will handle it and prompt.

And you also cannot use the free Qantas T3 (domestic) to T1 (international) air-side transfer bus unless you are flying internationally that day. SYD (the airport, not Qantas) will not allow it.

Tbus is the free transfer bus, its the one that VA uses.
OP might be overnighting at the Rydges for all we know.
Or if at the Ibis Budget, then a booked the night taxi for that next day is best, to get from the Ibis Budget to SYD T1.
(((Do not walk back to T2/T3 at 4.30am/5am and expect there to be lots of taxis there, that early, there were none when I had a need for one, for my flight from SYD to CHC a few years ago, taxis do not wait at T2/T3 SYD airport taxi zone over night))).

The Rydges Sydney Airport, while expensive, is a good one.
New to the airport is that Aerotel.
Even though you might be able to do OLCI, BNE QF check in desk, at the airport should swipe your passport into their computer, so you don't have to do it SYD.
(((Also, even if you have completed OLCI, sometimes its not complete till a QF staff member dips your passport and swipes it, I was on a linked flight ADL - PER - SIN, same PNR, same day whole sector.
Had done OLCI, got the ADL - PER BP, but at the gate, the BP would not register, kept showing red light.
Check in girl said, I was surprised why, but didnt ask, "go to that service desk she said", this was at ADL QFd terminal.
Service desk dips and swipes my passport into the keyboard, ...
And then the light went green at the gate))).

We are staying at Rydges, so will catch the Tbus from domestic. And then just walk across the road to international in the morning. Have done this so many times in the past but age plus no international flying for 4 years has left me severely not match fit!

Looking at making this as smooth and hassle free as possible. We’re in J so presumably we can check in at the dedicated business checkin at BNE domestic.

Speaking as an ex-night cabbie in Canberra, as soon as the last passenger from the last plane of the night - the midnight VA from OOL, back in the day - had left the terminal any cabs remaining were out of there, chewing sour grapes for the wasted time. No point hanging around when there's no chance of a fare.

Likewise there would be no cabs waiting for fares until the first flight of the day had landed. The way to get a cab in the pre-dawn is to go to the arrivals zone and accost a cabbie dropping off a passenger headed for checkin.

Just to clarify, when you check in at BNE, you will be treated as if you are only flying to SYD - you won't be checked in for your international flight as it is overnight.

The next day you will need to check in again for the international flight. @RichardMEL was incorrect in his reply as the stopover is overnight (specific SYD policy). A similar story to yours: Will Qantas in CFS check bags through for EK flights next day?

If you have no status, and your domestic flight is in Y, you won't be able to use business check in or the lounge in BNE. If it is also in J, then you can.

Was it yesterday, or the day before, or one before, the 9.40am QFi flight to JNB didn't leave until 4.30pm, according to flight aware.
How many travelling from T3 to T1?
While the Tbus is free, it can be full(ish), no pun, so if its the 2 of you plus bags, might pay to go with a taxi.
I know its not cheap, can be up to $35, that is what I got charged at 4.30am/5am that flight a few years ago.
So, to continue a long tale:
I thought it would be a good idea to walk about from Ibis Budget to the T2/T3 zone at SYD dom terminal, expecting it to be that there would be some taxis waiting there.
Saw none, didnt know any SYD taxi companies off my head, so called 132211 Adelaide Independent Taxis, thinking it was Aus wide.
I told the operator who picked up, SYD dom airport pick up, to go to SYD int.
The driver called me several times, saying to go to the special pick up at T2, I didn't know where that was.
Lucky he was happy to wait for me, while I wandered around, no one to ask, saw a vague sign, and the only MPV there, he had my name, so I got in, he took me to SYD int terminal, he quoted $31.45 or something, I gave him $35 in cash, called it square, and that was it.
Maybe the first train could have gotten me across, but that taxi idea was first into my head.
Now, these days, I know of RSL cabs and others, ...
So Tbus is ok, so long as you know it will most likely be a full bus.
