Check in Syd international - all day?

Hi - I recall that Qantas used to have all day check in at Syd international. I am flying on QF5 to Perth (ie only the domestic leg) and wanted to maximise my time in the first lounge. Is all day check in still available or has COVID brought an end to that?

Thanks

Yes, they still have all day check in at SYD. Though I found that the First Class check in counter was closed after the morning rush however this may have changed now that the A380 and F is back on the 1.

Quite the opposite. QF F checkin is *closed* during the morning rush. It opens later for QF1.

Presumably when LAX goes back to A380 it will reopen longer.

Makes sense. I was travelling a few times in May when the 380 was on the LAX route so suspect that's why F was open in the morning.

Turns out A380s are progressively back on QF11 from this Friday. So hopefully more F checkin time for those who can access it.

Awesome. Keen to try this out in a couple of weeks when I depart from T1 with a morning departure.

Does anyone know if Express Path has returned for status pax? Or only those travelling in premium cabins still?

It looks like all day check-in at Sydney is no longer offered. Flew QF147, arriving to check in at about 12pm (for a 5:45pm departure) last week and check in was closed until about ~4 hours before departure, with baggage capacity downstairs cited as the reason.

Am flying QF 5 & 11 in the coming months so will ask for clarification from agents when i check in but have others also experienced this lately?

I was allowed to attempt check-in at the J counter at around 8am for a 3pm QF1 departure at the beginning of this month. Unfortunately I couldn’t check-in for a different reason (my passport always causes problems for QF) so I didn’t get to the bag drop stage 😅

Any updates/recent experience with this one? I’m flying QF43 to DPS on Tuesday and am wondering how early I could arrive for the 4:35pm departure.

If you are travelling HLO you could OLCI the day before and rock up whenever you like on Tuesday. Not sure how early you can drop bags.

~4hrs should be safe. Maybe earlier. When I checked in on last week for QF1 I overhead the F checkin agent initially turn someone away but then said “Actually, it’s open”. So yet another data point that ADCI isn’t operating as before.

Much to my surprise, the QF app didn’t issue me a BP for SYD-SIN. They needed to do a doc check. I thought that had all gone - not sure what routes still have it?

SYD-SIN for me last week required no doc checks at all after OLCI. Straight through express path then security and onward to the lounge.

As another data point, I could drop bags 4 hours earlier for QF81’s 12.50 departure a few weeks ago.

I asked the check-in agent if there was a new standard for how early we can rock up. She said she doesn’t know if there is, as the system will just reject anyone if there isn’t enough baggage storage (so no time cut-off).
