So I asked for my luggage to be through-checked, no issues at all - got 2 boarding passes in MEL.

I mentioned that my 2nd leg is in business and did manage to get lounge access in MEL though - the The House Lounge (Etihad). Better than nothing!

Hi, thanks for sharing the experience, and I kindly have a similar journey in next year, and my two PNR like below. And in this case, am I able to get lounge access during the transit in Hong kong?

Segment 1 (PNR1) - SHA > HKG (Business operated by CX)
then
Segment 2 (PNR2) - HKG > CHC (Premium Economy operated by CX) > SYD (Economy)

Cathay’s policy is that the highest class of service on the entire journey determines lounge access at all points.

So your SHA-HKG would give you lounge access in HKG prior to the SYD flight.

The caveat is that the rules say ‘journey’. You have two separate tickets, however based on the anecdotal evidence, you might be ok!

Make sure they issue both boarding passes in SHA. This will link the bookings and if you are entitled to lounge access, this will print out automatically.
