Hi,

I have a flight later in year on QF from SYD to MNL with a 6 hour transit on EK to DXB. These are on separate tickets (mix of reward and paid bookings)

Will I need to recheck luggage at MNL? On the website QF and EK has baggage interline arrangements but not sure if that works with separate tickets.

Yes it works, I have have flown QF/EK combinations many times.
I assume as they are on separate tickets, if the QF or EK flights are delayed or cancelled, I have to find and pay my own way to the next destination or will they help put me on the next available flight?

I have not run into this situation however I suspect as they are 2 seperate booking any issues or problems that may occur will be your problem to sort out. When I have travelled on seperate tickets I always allowed for way more time than is normally required.

The interlining of luggage will not sort out problems with flight changes on two seperate tickets

I tried this last year (for a QF booking to a separate EK booking) and SYD QF J check in was adamant that they could not check through despite highlighting this policy. So I had to arrange for them to be retagged in SIN (fortunately there I could arrange for that to happen airside).

So while the policy states that you can, your mileage may vary.

That’s not good! I have a 6 hour layover so hopefully that would be enough time to recheck if need be

My family had this same issue a few weeks ago when we went QF to HKG then onto EK to DXB - Sydney check in staff would not allow it and had to clear immigration and re-check in HKG.

As a follow-up to my own question for others travelling in future:

We transited last week QF-EK in same terminal MNL with bags checked all the way through from SYD to CAI (the Qantas agent in SYD initially said not doable but was able to do so after ringing supervisor).

However there was an agent waiting for us at gate in MNL after we landed, taking us through immigration and telling us we need to pick up luggage and recheck at EK check-in despite luggage tagged all the way through. The bags were coming out onto belt so thank goodness he was there to tell us otherwise we wouldn’t have gone to collect our bags in MNL!

No big deal except the EK counter was not open for another 2 hours and there wasn’t a huge amount of seating at terminal. We allowed plenty of time for transit and it was quiet at immigration and security but may be a problem if there was a queue at either one.
