I'm looking to fly MEL-SIN-DXB, best option appears to be using a redemption for the MEL-SIN legs, and paying for SIN-DXB. All flights ticketed through SQ and on SQ metal. Will I be able to check baggage through to DXB in MEL, and vice versa on the return?

There is enough time between the flights (over 3 hrs) to potentially collect my bags and check in again in SIN, but obviously I'd prefer to avoid this.

Don't worry if bags not checked through to destination.

Simply go to transfer desk when you arrive in SIN and they will manually transfer your bags to onward flight.

I've had excellent check-through bag experiences with Singapore Airlines over the past few years. From Perth, they've always happily through-checked our bags on any Star Alliance separate bookings. SQ-SQ easy peasy, and also combos of Krisflyer award redemptions on SQ metal linking to LifeMiles redemptions on Air India.

SQ still offer through check to most airlines (irrespective of alliance). Main exception is low cost carriers. SQ->SQ definitely OK.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like I will be fine, good to know!

I'll add another vote of confidence for the luggage transfer as I've transited through SIN flying in on one carrier (one of the Chinese mobs) and flown out on SQ and all handled easily and successfully without me needing to touch a bag!!

I'd be surprised if you couldn't check the bags right through at the start but will be easy enough to do if it's not possible.
