I am looking for 2 J AA award availability from MEL - CDG on July 7 to 16 next year.
i look on the BA site and it shows 6 seats on July 12 and 2 seats on July 16. QF site shows availability on July 12 and 16.
when I phone AA they say no availability.
Any advice on how to get real availability without repeatedly phoning AA?

This is my experience, not all CX available flights will show as available to AA even though they are available to BA and QF. Plenty of times I have seen AA72 available on AA and not QF, and seem plenty of QF domestic flights not available to AA. Very often I have to book separately on AA to Australia and then on QF for the domestic leg as there is no way to get the one booking number even though both flights are award flights.

Both BA and QF can show phantom availability for CX flights. The Japan Airlines booking tool is a more accurate indicator of availability. membership is free but the tool is fairly clunky.

It shows 2J on CX on July 12 (searched via JL)

Checking on the JL site direct there are 2 seats MEL-HKG on 12 July 0745-1520), but no onward connections to HKG until 0950 on July 13 (overnight in HKG required). The 0005 flight on the morning of the 13th which is showing on ba(.com) is not showing on JL.
