Children in QF F Lounge as OWE

Hey just wanted to clarify the QF lounge access policy:-Ill be flying BA (as a OWE) with my wife soon. Will i have problems bringing in my 2 kids (3 yo and 6 mths)?I understand that two children under 18 generally dont count as guests - but is this only for members under the QF program?

Access rules to the F lounge are, as far as I'm aware, the same for QFF and OW status. Given your kids are highly unlikely to drink the lounge dry, I'm pretty sure you will be fine. I have no personal experience so hopefully someone can give you a definitive answer, but it would be rough to count kids of that age as 'guests'.

As a OWE on a BA flight you should be fine to get into the Qantas F lounge, the child access policy for QF lounge access is infants 0-3 do not count as a guest.

I was obviously a little annoyed (DYKWIA!!), the kids had managed to get their drinking problems under control by that time so wouldn't have cost them anything, but the kids were very happy to go wait at the McDonalds/Playground instead.

Yes that was what I am worried about - ie one world rules.
But fingers crossed - my kids are technically infants (ie 3.5 yrs and 6 mths) so hopefully will have more leeway...

But its a bummer that these rules apply. Whats more, I'll be flying BA and wife is flying CX

If your youngest is 6 months, I would doubt they would stop you going in with them.... however, thats the least of your problems as they will definitely stop your wife entering as your guest because you are not on the same flight. They are very strict about this....

Assuming you are a QFF WP, it is disappointing that QF did not allow some flexibility, however due to your children's age (5&8) your access is still restricted to one guest either via the eligible OW status criteria or the eligible QF members criteria.

You should be fine as SG in Business lounge.

OW rules wife is travelling on a OW marketed & operated flight, thus max 1 guest.

Yes I will be ok for the QF J lounge given I have QF SG and daughter is BA Silver (OWS).

Still, would like to go to the QF F lounge. I made the assumption that the QF child access policy would reply - but really does seem the OW policy applies (ie strictly one guest), which is really a bummer if it was enforced strictly given I planned my flights around an F lounge visit

I'm going in under BA OWE status which allows a guest on another oneworld flight.

However, I was recently made aware that children would/could count as a guest - which is a dissapointment (i had preveiously assumed that the QF child-friendly lounge policy applied as a general rule of thumb for their operated lounges)

My flight is on BA (syd-sin).
My wife's flight is on CX (syd-hkg).

I am relying on the OWE rule as quoted above - i understand that it is looser than the QF WP rules in terms of the next onward flight requirement.

Hopefully you get what you are after under the OW rules. If you do I wonder how long it will take QF to review their T's and C's (OW) or if they would just leave them as generic OW rules.

Yes indeed. As a QF WP, your guest needs to be travelling on the same flight. But as I understand, children under 3 are not counted as guests + you can bring 2 children under 18 (that's my interpretation).

As a OWE (BAEC Gold which I am), I can guest one person, who only needs to be travelling on another OW flight. But I think I could fall afoul on the children rules.

Would be sad to be denied access, but I hope the front desk will apply some sense... but as some members will say - the rules are the rules...

There was a thread on AFF recently where someone queried the same access rules and went out of the way to get clarification from Qantas regarding guesting rules for same flight.

May I ask why you're flying long haul with your 6 month old?

I've noticed a rise in young babies (under 1yo) being flown around the world on long haul which never used to be the case. Personally I wouldn't fly long haul with children until they were at least two.

Lol we live overseas atm so thought it would be good to bring the children back to see their grandparents once in a while...

Being an AFFer, I thought it would be a good excuse to visit the F lounge too (+ convoluted routing would be good to help with my 4 BA flights that I need to take to renew status)

The BA rules only allow one guest and count children as guests. I understand their policy applies to both their own frequent flyers as well as OW elites.
